I'm working on a simple Sonic 2 layout hack. Nothing special, just something to get me used to the whole hacking business. My problem is that quite often, when I make a test build to see if everything measures up to how I'd like it, it freezes at random spots. A download is included so anyone can take a look and offer assistance.

I've started with Aquatic Ruin, but it freezes right before the first little ledge. Any explanation available?

Stuff like this is usually caused by placing an invalid object.

This. Its most likely you put an invalid object and its not liking it so it crashes. I've had this problem before, some things aren't loadedin the level but perhaps for some other use so it crashes because its being used in the wrong place.

But you see, I've only used tiles and objects that are used in ARZ; Arrow Launchers, Grounders, Collapsing Bridges, etc. When I start a level, I clean it out completely, taking out all the tiles and objects (and saving loop path swappers, if I need them) so that I can start building from a fresh idea. I've noticed that most levels start with a bunch of seemingly random path swappers, but the collision shows no need for them.

I would suggest deleting the object and ring .bin files and letting SonED 2 create new ones, I've had a ring file corruption happen to me, and it would freeze on certain emulators.

Okay, and how do I do that? Would SonED2 do it automatically if I deleted the files, or would I have to resplit and start over or something?

Try the first option, with some luck it will create new files in its place.

Delete the ring and object files, open soned2, save, and then it will make new empty files.

Yay, it worked. Thanks for the help, colleagues. Now let's hope it still works when I start rebuilding it again.
