I thought It would be a good time to show Act 1's new layout and get some comments on it. I play it twice to show the top and bottom path.

I also have some problems as well.

    1. Sometimes things don't appear when they are supposed to as shown a couple of times.

    2. Most of my monitors won't show up for whatever reason (I remember someone told me it was because of the Monitor object, but I can't quite remember).

    3. Enemies aren't appearing where I put them (Even though I put them on Solid Ground) (As shown near the end by the Two Crabmeats in the same spot)

    4. I Know the Act End Sign is above the ground slightly and that the ledge near the first checkpoint has no Object 44's I will fix those.

    5. Some problems popped up only when I was playing this in Fusion. I record with Gens Rerecording and those problems didn't appear for some reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated ;)

I would say this is an improvement from last time. Now I was gonna pick out some things, but it sounds like you're aware and are having problems but i'll mention this just incase, one of the bridge ends.(I'm sure you know what I mean, you go through that section twice)

And because I'm a nitpic, I wouldn't mention that you've got to fix chunks or stop sonic from jumping to his death etc. Instead fix them before, then record, then viola a clean layout. But honestly, on a positive note it is better than your last video had shown.

I know the bridge ends, I couldn't make a bridge long enough, but is it possible to make it look like it broke (Hanging over the edge, I'll make sure it isn't a death trap)?

I know Sonic Falls quite a ways a lot, and would the Ice block be a good stopper so Sonic doesn't fling off the edge? And what do you mean by fixing chunks? And fix them before, then record? And Thanks, while I was making this, I knew it flowed a lot better than before, It's not done yet though.

It's good to see a full edited level act this time around, sure it's nothing "oh so spectacular" but it's a nice cleaner looking layout that works well as a introductory level to start the game off on.

To make it look like the bridge broke and is hanging at the end I believe would require to look at the programmed features added to the bridge for it to recognise when Sonic is placed on it, then have added code for it to pick up on a certain number of logs from the bridge to drop. You could if you want add another bridge next to where the first one ends then design a pole to help prop it up where the 1st and 2nd bridges meet, sort of like bridge Zone in S1 MS/GG.....

Or ultimately, just edit the level again until the end of the bridge reaches the platform. Simple enough.

If by "Ice block" you mean "Green Hill Zone rock" then yes, this could be one way to solve the problem, otherwise use the level wall sprite specifically designed for GHZ/SLZ (object 44) to cover platform chunks that allow you to run right through them, or in this case drop down a hole you didn't know was there.

Chunks are so called because they are what you use when building a level. Ever notice how you got many different images that can be used to make up a level? These are your level chunks. To fix chucks is to make sure that one platform can match to another platform without looking out of place, like how a jigsaw puzzle needs a specific piece for the image to look right.

Well I'm sure you know what you need to do now, so keep at it!

The broken monitors and enemies not appearing are probably related to the "remember object state" flag not being set properly on some items (not necessarily the ones that won't appear).

Fixed! I know it doesn't look right yet. But kind of like that right?

Yeah, that's it, just looks like an Ice rock to me. I'll use it to stop Sonic before he flings off a high edge

You mean by editing them? The Tile Editor Confuses me. I heard it has some problems with GHZ?

I can make them fit together better if that's what you mean.

    I plan on it! ;)

EDIT: Sorry. I accidentally hit reply and I wasn't done typing. If anyone saw that.

A vast improvement, though as mentioned by others misaligned objects here and there. Why is the rotating spike log missing it's rotating spikes?

Holy Fuck DarkLeach7, that is a VAST improvement since last time. Seems you've got a better understanding of layouts now, did you use my paper method to plan? ;) There are a few things that need to be fixed in this level, but most of them you seem to have already noted. My only nitpic is how some areas where there is a wall, it suddenly stops, then a few steps later comes back. Ex. At the last S tunnel. It just looks awkward.

YOUR paper method? No sir, I claim this method. I was drawing layouts and designs before you were born! : |

Seriously though, nice job on fixing things up, still needs work, but you're getting there! Kega emulates more accurately than Gens so if you're wanting it to run on hardware, then Regen and Kega are the most accurate emulators (in order). On a side note, is it necessary to make a topic for every update? Or did your old topics get trashed :s

Don't worry I'll add those later. And I'm not done with the level yet so hopefully everything will get fixed.

A Paper Method? What's this of a paper method maybe I should try that XD anyway, I mostly took the advice at looking of some other hacks to help, while I didn't copy anybody's level I saw that their levels FLOWED together. That was the key thing. And how does a wall stop and and come back? Is it where the Lamp Post is where it's just grass and there is a tunnel right next to it?

I know it still needs work and I plan on making it as best as I can! I haven't tried Regen yet, but I saw level errors on Kega that didn't show up on Gens so I really don't know, oh and a note, I was recording on my laptop and whenever I got to a part with a lot of objects my emulator slowed down (Obviously not in the video, it works just fine, which surprised me I thought the video would be slow too.) So is there a possible chance of Object Overload of some kind? And the only other release I had was my crappy New Years Release, which won't happen again I assure you. All the other threads I started were for different problems.

Yeah, that's exsactly how it should look.

Fitting chunks together is what I meant. Tile Editors come later for editing or transfering new art into the game.

I can still see the error post above, you might want to erase the quotes and write instead "error post, please trash" to cover for it.

Alright! I'll fit together my things a little better, is there a specific place that looks like it needs to be fixed?

I fixed It. It just has to be deleted now.

You've already covered the main one (that being the bridge extention), as for others, that will be down to your own judgement.

Browsing through my Edited Green Hill Zone Act 1, I noticed some objects I forgot to remove when I was clean-sweeping the level.

    /monthly_01_2012/post-1593-0-20320600-1326433233_thumb.png

Was surprised to say the least when I saw it (I normally don't go up that high because no level is there anymore). Don't worry I removed it, just thought I'd post about it. Maybe this will help performance? :)

All my monitors have "Remember Sprite State" set to yes and they still don't appear (Some of them not all)

And OrdosAlpha the rotating spike log has it's spikes, I just have to set them perfectly. (They look just a little off, but That's kinda hard to fix, But I'll fix it)

This depends on what version of the disassembly you are using. If you are using the 2005 disASM, then the object should be labelled 26 XX 00 with the remember state flag on. Project 128 (Markey's DisASM) and a few others will only work with A6 XX 00. I know from experience that this usually resolves this problem. The only other thing I can think of is there being too many objects in 1 place but I don't think that's the cause here.

I guess I was stupid, I only noticed some monitors had the "Remember Sprite State" Flag on. Set all of them to on and now it works like a charm. Is this also why after you place a monitor in debug mode and brake it, all the other ones you place are broken? Is that why you can't spawn rings after you place a ring and then exit and re-enter debug mode? Oh and I use the 2005 Disassembly.

Sorry, my bad. I didn't check all my monitors like I thought I did. It's fixed now though.

Wow, you DID improve in your hack! Good work, DarkLeach! I might do some of that when I get to finish my Centiseconds in my hack.
