How Do I Make Custom Music for my Hack?

I wanted to add custom music to my in-progress hack, Sonic Intense, but have no idea how to do so. It would be helpful if somebody could give me instructions on how to do it. To see my progress on my beginner's hack, I have added a link to my first public demo. (I really appreciate all the advice each of you have given me, and I will put the link to the better version up once I learn more. Can't wait to learn!)

 

Is the aforementioned music from another Genesis game? Or is it from a different system?

 

Oh great another newbie who wants to make a hard hack. Just no dude beginner hackers should not make hard hacks since they dont know what is and what is not acceptible in a hard hack. I know from experiance since thats what I tried to do and at first. I thought it was good but in reality it was not fun and people discriminated against it a lot especially SuperEgg which Im sure will respond to this topic after he plays the demo. Also Idk what you did but it just says game not game over when you get a game over and you need palette work big time I recommend talking to Mike B. Berry about palettes since he has helped me in that department. I know this is a demo but change your idea on difficulty until you know what good level layout is. Thats all for now good luck. Also this. At least for the first part. If you can't figure out the second part by yourself (e.g. take a BIN file and replace music81.bin with it or something) then there's something wrong.

Edit: Happy not really I just wanted to help but I guess it wasnt very good help. Did I say I hated him no, I even apologized at the end of the post if I offended him.

 

Three points I'd like to pick up on:

1. Do you think you could try sounding less like a dick? Much appreciated.

2. Just because you failed at it, that doesn't mean everybody will. I seem to recall that the guy who created the Master Edition hack (the original, not the rip off ones) made that as his first hack and it was pretty decent.

3. Only by experimenting will he find out what makes a good hard layout, and feedback is always helpful. He's got every right to post whatever he wants and make what he wants, if by doing so he's looking to get feedback to improve his game.

 

Make sure you check out the repository. There are some great pre-made .bin files you can use (they only work with Sonic 1 however).

There are also alot of XM files that you can use, but you will need to convert them with xm2smps.

Make sure you give credit too!

 

My only argument is did you even test his hack Steven yes he is a beginner but if he keeps up what he has it will fail like mine did I couldn't get pass the first second of the first level he had a cealing in the way of a platform that kept you from jumping a full jump oh I called it like it was for my first point I no longer give constructive criticizum since Thomas always took it as me saying Your hack sucks give up, Plus I would barely call that being a dick I could of said wow you suck stop hacking because your hack will always be shitty give up, but I didn't because I have better morals than that.


Edit: If he looks at level layout guides then Yes he could make the hack hard without pissing the player off. Also there are people who are bigger dicks then me on here.

 

I sense that there is a somewhat rational explanation to give of to the new member, He/she's willing to learn, eager and thirsty for knowledge. Which is a very oblique if they have never attempted what it is they are trying specifically. All I'm saying is that this member shows some potential, some of which most other members brush aside and think they can do anything they want. Stop Telling people to calm down, they are set here for a reason and those reasons have been proven time and time again, we are not bound to a nice environment all the time, and you have to realise that. What the fuck happened to helping people?

To answer your question, there's different ways of doing it. You could edit an existing track via ASM or hex editing it, or if you'd like to make some from scratch, you can make some XMs using some trackers. For example, with FL Studio, you can create a MIDI file, which you can convert to an XM, which then you can import using various hacking tools into your hack. The forum has something called SMPS archives, which has a bunch of XM files, which are free for anyone to use, given that they give the archives credit. It also has some voice files which you need to attach onto the XMs to tell the game what instrument to play. If you need some help, just hop into the SSRG IRC channel. If I'm in there and not busy I'd be more than glad to give you some pointers.

In regards to your post, all I'll say is that if you're not going to give constructive criticism, say nothing. The guy was clearly asking for feedback to help improve, nothing wrong with that. If you keep making remarks like that just because ThomasSpeedRunner didn't like it when you criticised his work, then you'll find yourself talking your way towards the exit door.

 

Ignore everything I said I was In a bad mood I didn't mean any of it.
