Palmtree Panic Zone Act 1 Present

It's very WIP at the time, but I'm looking at the MMD through a hex editor, then using this wiki page and my very limited (read: almost none) knowledge of hex to convert it to ASM for use in a disassembly.

Sorry for the incompleteness, but at least I can say I'm trying my hand at it. Thoughts?

How can someone who has very limited knowledge of hex and the 68000 convert code that other people who have knowlege of this have yet to do?

I never said I had limited knowledge of the 68k. It's hex that I have very limited knowledge of.

No offense, but you should leave that kind of stuff to the pros. I'm just sayin.

I know, but nobody else actually has taken up the liberty of releasing a disassembly of anything in Sonic CD.

Also, to be fair, this doubles as a big learning experience for me, since it allows me to familiarize myself with hex, which is good, because something tells me I'll be working with hex a lot more in the future...

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to mention, I'm only doing PPZ1 Present, then I might do other MMDs from time to time. However, I guarantee that PPZ1 Present will be done in the end. All others are not decided yet.

I agree with InfiniteWave. This is shit best left to somebody like me or the other pros of hacking, and not to mention releasing something like this in very incomplete form. A disassembly made without IDA pro or another Disassembler is merely pointless. If it wasn't pointless I would've made disassemblies for SMW and SMRPG already.

Whao now, since when do you guys decide who is and isn't right for the job of disassembling Sonic CD? If it were left to you guys, we'd get no release until 2090, by which point we'll be dead.

If the guy wants to attempt to disassemble Sonic CD then you shouldn't be advising him against it, you should be encouraging him, it's what gets the community flowing and further improves his (and our) knowledge of computer game functionality.

What MJ said is true, but TSR already knows my thoughts on releasing/showing work that is half complete.  And he also knows the admins thoughts on this too because we're fed up of saying it.

I swear there's a disassembly somewhere for Sonic CD.

Someone was working on a disassembly of one of the Sonic CD betas.
Something that would be more useful would be a disassembly of Sonic 1 ported to the SEGA CD.

Well there sort of is a disassembly, didn't the tech user "Qiuu" do one?. I mean well it was split like a disassembly so you could view the levels in SonED2 and port them over to Sonic 1 etc. There was just no way to build a rom from it.

*looks at the posts in this topic*

I'm going to be damn surprised if there was anyone who wasn't about to call me out on this.

Oh, and RHS, did I mention it's not a release (only a pastebin), and that I'm not releasing this thing until it's actually ready to be released?

I couldn't agree more, release this when it's ready to be released.

    *locks*

    This lock has two purposes:

    • it will prevent you from posting more incomplete stuff; if you have general questions about ASM you can post them in one of the hacking topics (that said, if you have general questions about ASM you should reconsider your goal to do something as ambitious as this);
    • it will prevent other people from arguing whether it's a good idea for you to try something this hard. I don't like to see people saying "no you can't do this".
Personally I am kinda inclined to believe this is indeed a bit out of your league, but nevertheless I wish you the best of luck, the best way to learn how to swim is being thrown into the sea.
