Edit: Ok i have decided how to call to each zone:

Hell Hill (OMG eggman destroyed green hill!)

Wet Mine ("Somehow" the bridge suddenly broke and you fell to that mine)

Abandoned Island (Straight from the mine, sonic used a surfboard to get to a factory on that island)

Sky Battle (Sonic Tails AND Knuckles jumped on the tornado to fight Robotnik)

City Falls ("Somehow again" our heroes fell down into a city with a giant building which was Dr. Ovi Kintobor's lab)

Casino Park (Our heroes went into the theme park next to the city while eggman escaped into a base far away! you'll have to gain money to travel to the giant ugly shaped mountain!)

Eggman Mountain (The ugly shaped mountain which is eggman's base. You cant get into the mountain because its in the background =P)

This is also the storyline and not only the zone names, as you can see.

New title card configuration and CFZ new art will be posted soon, it takes forever to upload.

This thing lost credibility as soon as I saw that 800x516 jpg screenshot (which is also dithered, how is that even possible at all since jpegs don't use a palette?).

So yeah, even you stated that in advance, I still think this project is too ambitious for you. But count me in if you need help with music, I guess. I'm an asshole, I admit that, but I'm a helpful asshole at least.

I dont understand why does everyone hates jpeg?

Yes it is hard, as you can see A LOT of things are soon to come, meaning they are hard to manage, especially the extra characters, i tried to do that but i died everytime i get to the first level with tails and it loaded sonic's mappings and it had shit tiles. if only puto wasn't banned from SSRG (or i will be validated to sonic retro) i could ask him on how to add extra characters. but i have to think about it, when there were nooby hex hacks the only good hack was puto's (untill megamix came out) sonic 1 remastered and he ported tails and flying for tails all by himself so maybe i can do that too?

Because it's not good when it comes to pixel art.

    [IMG] vs [IMG]

    (dramatization)

A jpeg with maximum quality, on the other hand, looks almost as good as a png, but is a lot bigger:

[IMG] (76038 bytes; the png above is 10817).

In short: jpeg is either uglier or bigger (or both) than a png when it comes to screenshots.

Also, your pic was stretched. Good Genesis screenshots should be 320x224 (or 320x240); if you really need to resize them, please use an integer multiple like 640x448 (or 640x480).

Last but not least, your pic was dithered. I wonder how you even managed to get dithering in a jpeg, which is not a palletized format, since dithering usually occurs when you use a shitty program to reduce the number of colors in a picture. I would expect to see dithering in a broken gif, or in a broken png, not in a jpeg which uses 16777216 colors by definition.

These are general tips that should be pinned somewhere, in my opinion.

I expect to see great things in this hack. Like Tails flying and sonic 3 sprites for sonic.

Good fucking luck with that. He may or may not put Tails in, but to get him to fly is gonna be quite tricky, especially with there being no completely split disasm available (to the public) just yet.

Uh, you do realise that whether a disassembly is split or not has absolutely no bearing on the code whatsoever right? It's quite pissing off when people just dismiss messing around with the S&K disasm as "too hard" - there's already quite a bit of stuff labelled, including two labels which are called Tails_Test_For_Flight and Tails_FlyingSwimming (gee I wonder what those do), and the S3K SCHG has many RAM variables and most of the SST documented. Yes, it's harder than S1 and S2, but it's far from impossible, and perhaps if people actually tried it out for themselves rather than just calling it too difficult and not trying that impression would be dispelled.

Yes, I am aware of this, the SK disasm is something I'm familiar with. However, if it isn't a split DisAsm, then all of the artwork, palletes, music, basically anything that you see in the folders is translated into giant blobs of code, which at some points ends up being large chunks of FF, FF, FF, FF, and so forth, taking up a lot of space, and making it longer for notepad, which most people start out using, to open. Then, this, combined with getting the art for Tails with the flying animation and mappings is in my opinion too much for a newbie to the scene to handle, unless they are great with the code, which is very rare.

EDIT: Also, you are right about the fact that if people didn;t claimit to be too hard and actually tried, then it would be easy and hopefully remove the fact that it is too hard and people might be able to use it more effectively.

Although, I know this is off topic, but one thing that is annoying as fuck with that DisAsm is the sound driver. If any of the data shifts position in the Rom at all, i.e. if you change a bit of code like adding or removing a bra.w etc, then the sound stops.

That's why there's things called SonMapEd & TSDC, even though Knuckles' art shit is fucked in SME.

And adding new art and mappings is apparently easy, check out Chimpo's guides on Retro. Alternatively you could just port over the art, mappings & DPLCS from S3K. Of course, you'll need to sort out frames & the Tails.

Not everything is served on a plate, port shit yourself, I ported Knuckles to Sonic 2, although I had some assistance in fixing some of the bugs and other ASM things I didn't know how to do.

I wasn't here for like 2 days and my topic has a lot of posts! i am so happy.

And yea, its hard to port s3k sprites because i need to know how to change s3k art format to sonic 1, I already tried to port tails' art mappings and dplc from sonic 2 disassembly + used the extra characters guide on retro + ported the tails object code from NA disassembly. But, when i played as tails it had wierd sonic tiles on the screen and the ghz backround was a giant spiderweb and i got through the floor. Maybe that was because i ignored things like "Missing sub_149A" or something like that, i just commented out the branches.

Anyway, my hack is going good i am working on porting bosses to act 2, changing the level sizes and working on Level/act transitions. A long time ago i tried to change the bosses location and i messed around with the resizing and now, I found out how to make level transitions! About act transitions, i think i have to mess around with the title cards and how it loads.

You see Sonic 1? Choose that, the art, mappings & DPLCS are now in Sonic 1 format.
