General Screenshot/Movie Thread

I like what you have done Ravenfreak. The palette feels like Sonic 2 Autodemo at night. It's funny, since hacking Sonic Chaos was my original idea, but the disassembly wasn't far enough, and didn't have the space to even change sprites at times. You could almost add a puzzle element to the game, being able to switch between Sonic and Tails, but then Sonic would need to be able to do something Tails cannot to make him useful.

I just got done editing some more palettes in Sonic Chaotic. What do you think of these?

I've also made the grass a tad bit darker in Turquoise Hill:

 

Sorry, but I'm going to critique those palettes because they are not at all good. There's one simple reason why these do not look very good, and that's because you broke one rule: you didn't notice the gradients.

Let me explain.



Here's a block from Turquoise Hill in it's default palette.
There are 6 colors there:

• a color that is used both as the darkest shade of brown and as a darkest shade of green
  
• 2 shades of brown
• 2 shades of green
• a color that is used both as the lightest shade of brown and as a lightest shade of green

In fact, let's arrange them so it becomes clearly visible.



Here you can see 2 rows of colors, sorted from the darkest at the left to the lightest at the right. That bit here is important. Now let's switch to your palette.



Do you see the mistake now? Here you screwed up the progression from the darkest shade to the lightest shade and made some colors identical. AND THIS IS WHAT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN. When you screw up the progression from the darkest color to the lightest, you screw up the shading. When you make colors identical, you lose detail.

You've made this mistake in all screenshots, with the exception of the Electric Egg Zone. Please fix that. I know that making palettes on SMS is a major pain, but what's the point of having new palettes when they don't look nice?

 

Thanks for your input Mr. Squid! I changed THZ's palette, does this look better? I haven't fixed the other palettes yet, when I get around to doing so I'll post them.

That looks really good, except for the 2nd screenshot... I can't put my finger on it, but something looks wrong with it.

The Spring Yard Zone background is not that great, but everything else looks really nice! Where's the "e" in SCORE?

 

Dammit why do I do this? :V Anyways yeah here's another video of another project I've started. I didn't change much of the layout, so I'll probably go back and edit somethings. I've also edited SS2 and 3 but haven't made videos of them just yet. I started this project a few days ago, before Blue Spheres was revealed in Mania btw.

Seriously tho, the groun is all screwed up, what's it even supposed to be?

 

And here we go... Mr. Cat said it's quite neat and you're saying it's screwed up. So, who I suppose to listen during constructive criticism? Until now arguments given to me are clashing each other and I'm totally confused what I'm doing right now. About Neo GHZ thing it will take more time than SMS editing because Neo GHZ has 16 various palettes and each color is responsible for even bigger details on screen than Genesis (obliviously). From this moment I'll hide in shadows and observe in what direction this topic will go, just like I did before 2015, because just like in Sonic fanbase, in hacking community majority wouldn't be satisfied with some work.
