Sonic 2 SMTP

Its back again, S2SMTP, the oldest hack that is still actually being worked on.


So far I have 3 levels completed EHZ, ARZ, CPZ. The hack is a Layout/ASM hack.

* If you collect all the Special Rings in an act you get taken to a Special Stage at the end, even on act 2.


* Character & Difficulty select in options and Level select. C for character, B for difficulty.


* Seperate Character start locations for Knuckles.


* All Grays in the palette have been changed with its S3K counterpart - Gives much better looking Grays.


* End of level signpost is now readded to the game.


* Many Misc art edits

Also, I have a few problems with GHZ that I could use some help with:


The boss arena doesnt lock correctly, the breaking platforms don't work, the spike log object has 1 spike at the top at all times.


If anyone can help out with these, it'd be much appreciated!

 

From what I've seen in the Unnamed level, it seems used a BG similar to Stardust Speedway's Past. The levels are great anyway. Keep it up.

Long time no update. Anyway, progress is going but pretty slow. I wanted to post some pics:





Remade him from the Motobug object. The only problem I see is the fact he uses Sonics palette. So if you are super or being Knuckles, he isnt going to look right.

 

Not bad at all, I may have to knick this badnik =P

 

It's not similar; it is from SSz past. But the pillars [at the purplebackground (the far one)] ,they're from another game(or it's from scratch). I'm really liked the background.

The unnamed zone's foreground is so bright. It doesn't fit well with the background .

 

This looks really nice.

 

I was going to wait until I completed a little more of this before posting but eh. ^_^

Awesome, but HPZ bottom part of the background seems messed up.

 

Yea I know. I forgot to fix that before I took the pictures. I was hoping noone would see. ^_^

Well, I love what your doing with this hack. Pretty similar to what RHS is doing. Good work though.


When you did the level and the coding, did it mess up any of the other levels? (CPZ, CNZ, ARZ, etc.)


Because I'm trying the same thing and it seems to mess up my art and CPZ doesn't have rings...... which is pretty weird.

 

Nope, added it in without any problems. Its sharing the same zone slot as GHZ3. ^_^

 

Ah, I might change what level I use then, maybe replacing a level, because I think I used a lost level instead.

Yeah, that's background deformation. It's a problem when adding new art, although I was told that it's purpose was to use parallax scrolling on the backgrounds. (GHZ in Sonic 1 is a perfect example of parallax)

 

Yes, and as you can see it is paralaxing the background. Its currently using GHZ's, since water is supposed to be there, it does that.

 

Do the same as what I'm going to do; Time-up On/off.


Your very first picture of the character select, it looks a little odd that the first box only has one character select and the other two has two. You should make an extra character slot to make it look right. Or, you could make the first box also show a current character? Just throwing suggestions =P
