TL;DR: Got a garbage Firecore Genesis a while back, and I wanna buy an Everdrive and actually have it work with the thing. Yes, you read the title right. I got one of these things for Christmas back in 2017, and I haven't really touched it since a few months ago. I've been thinking of testing some ROM hacks (both of my own and of others creation) but am hesitant to get one as I'm worried it just flat out won't work. Plus, if it does work, what hacks have been tested? There are so many factors. I may even just break the bank and try a MegaSD/Everdrive Pro just for the Sega CD compatibility. So, if anyone has even tried to do this kind of thing, let me know your results so I can make an informed purchase. Thanks!
I wouldn't count on it. I believe that those AtGames Firecore shitstains only use their cartridge ports to extract the ROM into a separate memory buffer that its emulator uses. Any kind of flash cart would need the console to properly power it and actually interface with its additional hardware, in which it won't do. I believe this is also why it doesn't use save RAM that's on a cartridge. Definitely don't count on Virtua Racing working either.
(Got ninja'd) I'm with faith here; unfortunately the Everdrive that you have WILL not work on the Firecore/AtGames Genesis that you have, because the console itself relies on emulation software (which we all know of is the worst one we've had so far). My best bet is to get an actual Genesis for your Everdrive cart. Also, If I were you, I would just smash that piece of sh!t console into bits. Nuff said. (don't mind me) Also, 50th post.
I don't have a copy of Virtua Racing, nor do I have a game that uses Battery Backup/SRAM, but what I can tell you is that it seems to be reading the cartridge in real-time, as shenanigans such as Cartridge Tilting work. I do agree with you, the emulation on that thing is absolute garbage. Plus, I agree with you on that sentiment about obliterating the thing. I haven't done it yet, but I will. Eventually. But I will take your word(s). I no longer plan on buying one and will instead allocate funds to buy a legitimate Genesis.
Thanks for your kind words there, @MemeMaster9000. Also, the AtGames Genesis Flashback has a cart slot to play physical Genesis games, but the console itself dumps the ROM from the carts to its internal memory (which is erased when the console is off), so it is not reading from the ROM cart in real-time. Not saying that you have or wanted to get an AtGames Genesis Flashback, but just to let you know. Oh yeah, MemeMaster, I was saying that in relation to a post on this forum that they said they were going to smash the AtGames Classic in a planned video; here's the quote: Spoiler: Spoiler Title It's been years, my man. WHERES THE VIDEO?! (just joking) Again, just kind of joking or fooling around. But still. Not to mention that I have six Genesis consoles and a "best-of-the-best" Everdrive flash cart out there. And 51st post as well.
Well in that case, even then, it's probably only just reading the ROM data to be fed into its emulator, and still not powering any additional hardware, hence preventing stuff like an Everdrive from working.
Well short awnser is no, because my friend has a flash cart and an atgames console and yeah it doesnt work it gets stuck loading the game but the os of the cart does work though.
Since this got bumped, figured I'd add to the conversation. The X3 works for me, aside for soft resets, sms button hard resets and save data: - Soft resets boot into Virtua Fighter 2 with an odd palette and no audio - Emulated hard resets via the SMS pause button just don't do anything - Saves use garbage data (possibly ROM data?), and can't be saved due to soft resets not working. More research is needed; Neto probably knows something about it, judging by MDOS putting saves at $400000
