The shading on the trees is broken/non-existent and the mountains have mismatched colours between the higher parts and lower parts. Both of these should really be fixed.

Your tweaks have lost some of the shading as StephenUK has pointed out, but another thing is that the colors themselves retain their hues when, under moonlight, the colors should be subdued a bit. Rather than getting into a long explanation on how that works, I'm going to, instead, show you what I mean.

It's not perfect as clouds wouldn't normally be this bright, but it's a good starting point changing only the palette, I think. Feel free to use this reference however you'd like.

This is a test for a level layout I'm making with the challenge of adapt it to use with Homing Attack without to make the game to be broken as it was in previous hacks which also had the homing attack as one of the Sonic's abilities. This import of Emerald Hill Zone does have its original palette cycle and a proper background deformation but the process of porting the animated tiles is still in progress.

You sir, are absolutely fantastic! This is really solid work~

it's visually fitting and is quite unique for a hack. More importantly, you've put a lot of effort into making it work, and fought through everyone's negativity to get to this stage, keep up the good work, it looks like we may have ourself yet another outstanding professional at birth here =)

At first I was just going to add Angel Islands' plants and waterfall to Aquatic Ruin, but I realized that it didn't fit Tropical Jungle very well and I really like Sonic Rush's art.

I still need to decrease the number of blocks and tiles.

It is annoying that there is a limit of tiles / blocks :(

Mod your Mega Drive to give it 2MB RAM and extra 64KB of VRAM. Problem solved.

It's not that big of a problem. There are a lot of tiles that have a miniscule difference from others. I already had to delete tons of duplicate blocks and tiles to fit in the background and I have plenty more to do. Right now, there are a bit more than $400 tiles and my goal is to get it down to less than $380. Lickily SonLvL makes removing duplicates really easy. I can just paste one tile over another and then hit the "remove duplicates" button.

Ah, now this is more like it. Resources used in a way to make it look like the actual Tropical Jungle.
I still think Neo Green Hill Zone's tileset would be more fitting for a 2D Wave Ocean than your Angel Island edit, though.
After all, it is a beach-trope level and not a green-trope level like Emerald Hill or Angel Island.

I posted screenshots of Wave Ocean a little while ago. It featured Emerald Hill with new grass, plants, and Neo Green Hill Zone's sand.

It seems that something that scared Sonic romhackers in the past is getting back.

Let's take a different look at the skies of Emerald Hill Zone.

Someone actually implemented a homing attack cross hair? I looked into doing that a few years ago but was told it would be a nightmare because of VRAM...

Yeah. That's the homing attack thing in action. And it was made using only one 8x8 tile flipped and mirrored as they were be different objects. I had to sacrifice a little object for my friend to make this thing workable, but this removed object was just a very unsignificant thing. I also did a custom sound effect to this thing.

Credits goes to FireRat and HPZMan for these things to become true.

Come on and take a dip in. The water's fine!

In a dev group I'm in, a question of whether or not the water pools in Mania would work was posed. This is my attempt at replicating such pools. There are a few restrictions to the effect, but it largely works as it does in Mania. You could, for example, have two different height water pools on screen at once, working, but I did not showcase this within the video.

    Oh wow! That is amazing!

You know what you should do? Make something similar to one of Gex's scifi levels where the water acts as antigravity, and floats in mid-air:

At 7:31, 7:41, 8:35, and 9:01, it would be awesome to see something similar! =3

So I decided to actually work on my hack for once. I haven't been working on it lately because of things.

Anyways, I present to you, Green Hill Act 2:
Since Scrap Brain 2 had the Y looping thing, this level's background is basically a bunch of mountains n shit. There's still some problems, such as the lightest shade of green being messed up (due to the differences between Act 2 and Act 1's palettes) and I should change the grass in the background so that things don't get confusing. Oh, and also, I finally fixed the "RINGS" text thanks to tons of trial and error. I should actually learn how mappings work next time.

That moment when you finally do something you meant to do several years ago, but then fail to realize or remember why you wanted to accomplish said goal.
