General Screenshot/Movie Thread

It's great to see the 8-bit games getting some love.
Keep up the great work Ravenfreak and Bluestreak. And might I say, Bluestreak. I'm loving how that 8-bit Hidden Palace art turned out.

 

That palette seems off to me, as in "the colors either are too bright or too dull"
I don't mind the idea of setting the stage in a night-style aesthetic, but it'd have to be done properly.

I'm likely gonna sound really stupid, but what game is that?

 

I know TheInvisibleSun was first with this concept, but since that one screenshot long time ago I didn't saw anything new with this so I decided to make this real too. It's WIP, it has dark ambient SMPS made by me with my own FM presets, layout will change/expand.

 

TheInvisibleSun's hack is fully released and doesn't look quite like that. In fact it looks more like my hack I made a year ago:

Mine is called Silhouette Sonic in which it was suppose to be like a cutout Silhouette animation style and use gimmicks from Donkey Kong Country Returns like secret paths that would be obvious if the "light were turned on" but not so much in this.

 

Yeah, I mean your concept LuigiXHero. Do you plan finish this? If yes, I'll cancel it.

 

I dunno yet, but you don't have to cancel your hack.

 

Ok, I'll not cancel it and do my best with finishing hack/improving stuff. Meanwhile I edit S3 Hidden Palace Zone, but a little bit harder and longer. Unfortunately I have two issues here - palette swap from custom to original and vice versa and can't change level order to have in data select No Save/Save slots HPZ as a first zone.

 

During last few months I made lots of bosses and minibosses with help of TheBlad768. So, here is one of my works:

What is it? Ancient keeper of Necropolis? Yet another Eggman's mech? Or it's some creation related with Sonic.exe?

Some section of hack contains possible answer, but I can't show it right now because it can ruin intrigue

 

My guess is that it's some Sonic.EXE stuff, not the most spooky thing ever, but hey, it's something.
My suggestion is to make it somewhat appealing, as the colors seem to look very bland on "Amy" (I know it's Sonic's palette), also some platforms would be nice so that you can hit her
or make her swoop down to attack you.

 

For an example of things to do in the hack above @Xernom, look up Who turned out the lights earthworm jim.

 

New palette for Green Hill Zone (water cycle was changed too, thanks for tip Project FM).
Also a new little mountain in the background.

 

The palette is gorgeous, nice work. I'm going to ignore the spring and the white dot next to it, but the mountains seem a bit too high in the sky. It appears that in order of appearance, you have clouds, mountains, sky then the sea. The mountains and the sky should swap round IMO.

 

yeah it doesnt really nail the illusion of distance quite right (assuming thats what you were after), but it does look really nice nonetheless

 

Yes, I really wanted to make the mountain to look distant. I guess I should have used a smaller sprite instead.
The spring is just a leftover from the original layout, because I changed the palmtrees original position. The white dot next to it was supposed to be a star... I guess even a small little white pixel can look out of place in some situations. lol

 

that one dot was a star? Way to make it not obvious, by not placing like more of them or something haha

In all seriousness, that star is too low and close to the mountains. It should be a different shade too as it stands out too much.

This screen is of an unlock-able final act in Sonic 1 Color Contrast (Final Zone also used this aesthetic, alternating the B&W to W&B during the 'electric orb' phase).

Or, he's referring to this mini-hack, that slowly changes the palette to all white/black the more you collect rings.
