Just tried it. The hack will run, but there are several problems I'm going to attempt to go back and fix. For example:

     - Jumping plays the 2P Results music

     - Rolling plays the drowning music

     - Skidding plays Metropolis Zone

     - etc., etc., etc.

I'll get around to fixing those. Hopefully this won't be too difficult.

Well, if someone knows how to fix such problems, please let me know. The sounds are not playing correctly, as stated in my previous post. Now that you mention it, there are quite a few errors in the damn thing. Hopefully, someone can help me.

Hey guys. I figured out how to fix the problems I mentioned (they were simple enough and yet I had initially overlooked them somehow :p), but now...

It's time my hack sounded decent.

I would really appreciate it if people could help me out by giving me Sonic 1 SMPS's of some of the following songs, since I'm using the Sonic 2 Clone Driver. Be warned, a lot of these music choices are from Sonic: Before The Sequel (though that might be because a lot of the music from that fangame would fit the levels in my hack, and because I love the soundtrack). Also, this is a really long-ass list, so if necessary, feel free to skim through until you find one you can do. Anyway, here's the list of songs I plan to use:

Rivulets - For Hilltop Heights, Act 1 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?
Evening Dreamscape pt1 - For Sunset Star, Act 1 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Casino Street Zone - Act 2 (Sonic 4: Episode I) - NOT DONE

White Park Zone, Act 1 (Sonic 4: Episode II) - NOT DONE
Downpour - For Hilltop Heights, Act 2 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Grab Bag (Duke Nukem 3D (Sega Saturn)) - NOT DONE

Boss Theme 1 (Sonic 4: Episode I) - NOT DONE

Stratospheric Synergy - For Arcane Altitude, Act 1 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Boss Theme (Sonic 2 (8-bit) (Game Gear)) - Done

    Character Select (Sonic Robo-Blast 2) - ?

    Deep Sea Zone Act 2 (Sonic Robo-Blast 2) - ?

Evening Dreamscape pt2 - For Sunset Star, Act 3 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Creature of Nightmare - For Sunset Star Boss Act (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Prismatic - For Hilltop Heights, Act 3 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Rolling Out - For Hilltop Heights Boss Act (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Titanic Tower, Act 1 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Invisible Realm - For Lost Levels, Act 1 (Sonic: Before The Sequel) - ?

Lost Labyrinth Zone - Act 1 (Sonic 4: Episode I) -NOT DONE

Mad Gear Zone - Act 3 (Sonic 4: Episode I) - NOT DONE

Oil Desert Zone, Act 1 (Sonic 4: Episode II) - NOT DONE

White Park Zone, Act 3 (Sonic 4: Episode II) - NOT DONE

Sylvania Castle Zone, Act 3 (Sonic 4: Episode II) - NOT DONE

E.G.G. Station Zone (Sonic 4: Episode I) - NOT DONE

Endless Mine Zone (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - Done

Death Egg Zone, Act 1 (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - Done

Oil Desert Zone, Act 3 (Sonic 4: Episode II) - NOT DONE

Ice Cap Zone, Act 1 (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - Done

Death Egg Zone, Act 2 (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - Done

    S3 Credits (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - Done

Final Boss (Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - Done

In all honesty, I would do these myself, but I'm currently pretty much unable to do most SMPS stuff because of my inexperience with it. I can do the S3K songs, but currently, I can't do any others. Big, BIG thanks to anyone who can assist with some of these songs.

Oh, and if a song has ? next to it, it means I'm awaiting permission to use it.

I dunno how I feel about someone using someone else's fan game music in their hack. Did you get permission?

Edit: Just to be clear, I am not trying to start something. Just I think maybe you should ask first and not just assume it's ok. Just have respect for the original creator of the music.

TSR, you expect people to help you put all that music in your hack?  Nope.  You're better off asking if anyone would help put music in your hack, rather than showing a list of songs you want expecting people to just do it for you.

Tell me if I have got the wrong end of the stick.

I think you slightly misinterpreted my post. I'm not necessarily expecting people to help me; in fact, I'm even planning to do some myself, specifically the S3K tracks. However, I would be beyond grateful if someone could assist with some of the others, like White Park Act 1 and Casino Street Act 2.

I think I see what you're getting at here. If I knew who to ask, I would, but sadly I haven't a damn clue who to ask permission from. The tracks in Sonic: Before The Sequel are from different people, which is exactly what's throwing me off.

    (sorry for double post)

Well, I just tried using the Music Pointer Fixer for converting ICZ1 to S1 format, and...well, download this ROM, head for Winter Hill Zone Act 2, and you'll see (and hear) for yourself.

EDIT: Never mind. I got it working. It may not sound perfect, but at least it works.

Erm...I hate to triple post here, but I'm having a problem with the DEZ1 music: It's playing too slow. Should I do something to fix the tempo on it?

EDIT: Fixed (had to edit byte 5 in hex, even though I hate ediing in hex =P). Speaking of which, why do I keep ending up figuring things out before people can help me with them?

Because you keep asking for help with things that you obviously haven't spent much time trying to work out for yourself.

Well, that makes sense. Note to self: look at related code before asking question.

Anyway, I do need some assistance on the Sonic 2 Game Gear boss theme. Look for the post in Requests if you want to give it a try. I posted the XM file and tried to politely explain what I needed in that post, so I THINK someone might be willing to do the last bit of the conversion. It's really a matter of inserting the right voices, but being the SMPS dummy that I am, I don't know what instruments are used.

Bingo.  This is what I was trying to explain to TSR the other week.

Alright, I've figured out something. Apparently, the instruments the track uses are as follows (in the order they're listed in Mod Plug Tracker, and how they're listed...not that it really helps me understand it any better):

    Square Wave

    Closed Hi-Hat (Standar

    Open Hi-Hat (Standard)

    Acoustic Snare (Standa

    E. Piano 1

    Bass Drum 1 (Standard)

I'm assuming this could possibly relate to the needed voices, but I'm not entirely sure.

    (sorry for double post)

So, I tried porting the Death Egg Zone art from S3K to my hack, and...[IMG]

Until I understand how to fix this, I will need to rely solely on the collision to know what I'm doing. The collision, thankfully, is working.

How did you port it? LevelConverter? Some other tool? Just copying the files without converting anything?

You caught me. I just copied the files without converting anything (the reason I boldfaced that in the quote)

Tell me, what exactly is LevelConverter? More specifically, what does it do?

EDIT: Never mind. Although look below. There's a new problem.

Okay, I just used LevelConverter to convert everything (although I only took the art =P), and I have a new problem...

Now what do I do? It won't load correctly!

EDIT: Oh, and how can I get the stars to not load? I've toyed around with SwScrl_DEZ a bit, with no success.

If I can make a suggestion Thomas how about downloading an unchanged dissasembly and experiment with adding converted art like that so you dont royally screw your hack up. It will keep you from getting more stressed out and make you less tempted to ask questions.

No offence, TSR.  But I'd appreciate it if no one tells him how.  Looking at your timings of your posts, it looks like you're not giving much time to try it yourself.  After a couple of days, if you do not figure it out, then I will help you.  Until then, you're on your own.

Sorry if it looks like I'm being a right bastard, but it's for your own good.  You'll never learn if you don't try for yourself.
