    This is Sonic 1's VRAM:

As this shows, the signpost tiles are stored before the HUD tiles. Sonic 2's signpost uses more tiles than Sonic 1's, causing it to overwrite the HUD tiles. You could solve this problem by moving the signpost tiles to somewhere else in VRAM, or you could make the signpost use fewer tiles by deleting some of them. Since Tails is not in Sonic 1, you could delete the tiles that are used by Tails' signpost.

You could just move the vram if you do add tails, like I did with Sonic 1 on Bird Hill island.

That's unusual: I've never heard of tiles crashing the game before. Normally, crashes related to sprites are caused by broken mappings, DPLCs, using the wrong tile compression, or tiles not being padded to an even address, but not the actual tile data itself. What sprites are you trying to edit?

With a little ingenuity, it can be figured out:

All seven lines have the same first three values, so they can be ignored. The last value of each line follows a pattern of incrementing by $10, so it is likely just the X coordinate. By process of elimination, that leaves the second-to-last value as the only one that could hold data related to the tiles.

By opening the font file in a sprite editor like SonMapEd or ClownMapEd, it can be seen that all letters are sorted by alphabetical order, with 'U' coming after 'T'. Since most letters are 4 tiles large, you can get the tile value of 'U' by adding 4 to the tile value of 'T'. 'T' is used by the first line of the mappings, which has a tile value of $42, so set the tile value of the third-to-last line to $42 plus 4 to replace the 'P' with a 'U'.

The unique sprites for Sonic in the ending are compressed in the Nemesis format. Did you make sure to save the tiles as Nemesis tiles and not uncompressed tiles?

If it's in artunc, then it's uncompressed. If it's in artnem, then it's in Nemesis format! You'll get the hang of it after a bit.

Also, I'm having a problem with me trying to add the Spindash sound into Sonic 1. When I charge the spindash, the sound doesn't play!

For reference, I'm reading the second part of the Spindash guide from Sonic Retro, and I have gotten to the point of me about to fix the See-Saw bug, but the lack of Spindash Sound is bugging me.
