Also check out Desert Bus For Hope!

What is Sonic at its core? A jump-and-run. So, why not create a Sonic game where you do nothing but jump and run... for eight hours straight?

Presenting the hack nobody asked for, inspired by the game nobody asked for. Desert Bus is a "mini" game originally released as part of Penn & Teller's Smoke & Mirrors (an unreleased Sega CD game) in which you drive a bus to Las Vegas through the desert IN REAL TIME. That's eight hours of uninterrupted gameplay to earn a single point, with the bus deliberately steering itself to the right to keep you from cheating.

Translating this to a Sonic game turned out to be simpler than I expected. Just flip the pseudo-3D of the official game on its side to make it a sidescroller. Then just make the gravel on the side of the road bottomless pits (or bottomless ceilings?) and you're done. The only thing that could still be improved is the slightly surreal scenery, which I admit was quickly thrown together from Scrap Brain Zone assets because I was too lazy to draw an actual desert. :V

Music: Mega Man X3 – Intro Stage (lifted straight from Sonic ERaZor because it was already the perfect song to set the ambience lol)

And for the cool people who actually read the whole description, here's a secret: Hold ABC as you press Start on the opening disclaimer screen to turn the game into eight MINUTES instead of hours! Just make sure you reach at least 360 miles before time over. It's a bit more reasonable than the full eight hours but still insanely mind numbing, trust me.

Playing this for 8 hours and late at night must be an unforgettable experience

I can only imagine you spending 8 hours pressing forward and occasionally jumping around while thinking about why you are playing this in the first place

Small update, v1.1 (download link in first post):
Improved clarity on the two modes in the opening title. Remaining game stays untouched.

I thought I was being clever by making the hidden 8-minutes-instead-of-hours mode... well, hidden. But that naturally means nobody will ever know about it. So, I've made a small update to the opening text screen to inform you about holding A+B+C as you press start to enable it. This was already in v1.0 but just not mentioned anywhere.

There's a reason why I included it and why I had the urge to make a post about it: 8 minutes is reasonable. Absolutely, mind-boggingly tedious, but reasonable. I would never expect anyone to do the full eight hours, but I do suggest you to put aside eight minutes to beat the short mode. It's kind of meditative, I'm not even kidding.

Important question... 8 hours to finish the game? (I ask because in the video and in the second message (by Red2010) of this publication says that it takes 8 hours to complete it) (I don’t know if i explained it right)
    Good hack btw.

Yes, just like the 8 hours in the original Desert Bus. I suggest you watch this video if you got no idea what the game is about:
