It's time for Hellfire Saga to be released after 5 years - and that time period is quite a saga in of itself. In that time, the game has gone from an amateur little Sonic 3 and Knuckles hack to a full-fledged game project with a development history worthy of a whole book, with lots of time dedicated to the concept, development, audio and visuals. Red Miso Studio finally opens a portal to the devil's frying pan... so try not to get fried in the first few minutes. Other emulators are not recommended, as they are not perfect and there are problems associated with incorrect emulation. Holy shit, you guys are amazing. I never expected it to be finished so quickly, and there's no chance I'm not playing the whole thing the moment I get home.
I enjoyed everything from this hack! It's one of those hacks you just want to replay from time to time agian since there are so many things to do in it. The hack overall feels very polished and some effects that were used were amazing! It honestly reminds me of games like The Adventures of Batman and Robin where they would show what the megadrive is capable of. And this hack is just absolutely beautiful! Already one of the best romhacks of 2023!
I thoroughly enjoyed this hack and it was definitely well worth the wait. The extra graphical polish adds a lot and the hack overall is absolutely dripping with graphical fidelity. I appreciate the condensation of Forest of Decay's acts which helps make it feel more engaging, and while the level design overall has improved I still think it's a little forgettable (albeit it's more of a minor nitpick). The bosses are still the highlight of this hack and they're all still a visual treat even if I personally dislike a few of them (Mainly the sin city 2 miniboss for having a lot of waiting, the death fight for having a lot of waiting, and the final boss phase 2 for being mostly waiting, not a big fan of boss fights that revolve around you dodging attacks and waiting for openings). thanks for accidentally sending my message early, keyboard anyways, what I was going to say next was that I noticed that some of the songs and from SHC'21 were changed, some sound better (like the queen in the dark night remix), and some sound worse (the malicious glance 2 remix is the most disappointing imo), but the hack was definitely quite the treat in the audio department as well. I was planning on making a video review of this hack but after writing this post I'm not entire sure, mostly because I don't have that much new to say other than "finally, a technically impressive hack that's actually fun!" (Maybe I could try making a short 30 second review? idk)
Found an area in Malicious Glance II where, with tricky maneuvering, one can get completely softlocked:
