Don't worry, it's not that I don't like this place and all (I do). However, I'd like to erase my account for the sake of personal reasons, and I'd like to know if it's possible to do so.

I believe you can ask an admin to delete your account. I don't see a way to do it yourself however.

I'm going to need a lot more than just "I want it" before I go near the delete button. Why do you want your account deleted?

Why do I have to explain why?

To put it simply, we never delete accounts around here except under very rare circumstances. You're going to have to provide a pretty good reason for us to break a very long-standing precedent and delete your account by request. If you don't want to be here, then no one's forcing you to use your account or otherwise be here. If you don't like your name, it can be changed. We're not in the business of deleting accounts on a whim. Plain and simple.

I'm not doing this to be mean, or pick on you. This is just how we work around here. We can move this discussion to PM if you want to preserve posts, or you can continue to post here if you'd like. I'm always listening.

Long story short, I'm trying to depart entirely from the Sonic fandom altogether, especially the research communities.

As someone who's done that, the long and short is you're just going to have to walk away. You can't change the past, nor can you just wipe it away.

As personal advice, learn to accept it, and grow. Far better than just running away from it.

I'm confused. When you say "accept the past," what did you mean by that? Did I do something? :/

I assume you're trying to get away from something, as people don't just up and ask for their accounts to be deleted. May be that I'm jumping to conclusions, but it just reads like you're trying to clean off a slate. Wipe away your footprints.

An alternate solution: generate a random number sequence, copy-paste it without looking at it, and set it as your new password. Then sign out.

Or just walk away. Really, there's no reason to delete your account when your intention is just to leave the scene.

It's honestly true. I AM trying to escape the Sonic scene, and it'd be much easier on me to know that I don't have any more association with Sonic the Hedgehog. With places like these being for Sonic, and having an account here, it's essentially just floating in the air at this point. The fact is, I really don't have anything left to contribute to this board. In fact, I never really did in the first place. There's a certain reason that I'm trying to leave the Sonic fandom in its entirety, and I believe that it'd be best to keep that to myself for now. The minimum that people ought to know is, I'm trying to flee from anything Sonic-related, and it'd be much obliged to help me out on this one. When people say to just walk away from here, I don't really understand what that does. I feel like it'd do everyone a big favor, including myself, to erase this account. My posts won't clutter up the board anymore, and I can move on. So when people tell me to just walk away and move on, that's essentially what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to move on from the past by erasing any association with it. No matter how dumb that sounds to anyone else, that's what I personally believe.

Change your password to one you won't remember.

Change your email to one you won't remember.

Then you can just get the fuck out. The account isn't getting deleted and that is that.

You are a nobody, you didn't do anything notable, it's not like the past will creep up on you.

Clutter? 11 posts is not clutter, of which a notable number are here. Clutter is TSR's infamous help topic. Clutter is the garbage left behind from upgrading this board from IPB2 -> IPB3-> IPS4 -> XenForo. Your posts are kinda insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Your posts are a bit of dust on a thin shelf. If you want to get away, then just walk away. Dissociation by choice and action. Erasure is not what's going to happen, so your option is to just walk away.

Yeesh, I was just asking. No need to call me a nobody. :p

Anyways, the vibe I'm getting is "we're not going to erase it just because we don't want to." I don't see the harm in erasing it at all. :/

Oh, and as for the thing about how I didn't do anything notable, I'm not going into details about that.

This has just become 'why' vs 'why not'. Difference is, you're the one that has to provide a good reason, not them. Your sole reason is that you want to cover your tracks, but you refuse to go into any detail on it, despite claims of there being nothing to hide.

You may want to take this as a reminder in the future that anything you put on the internet is likely to be there permanently. If you're going to sign up to any sites or message boards, be absolutely sure about your commitment to it. Whether or not you can't see any harm in having your account erased is irrelevant. Let this example serve as a future reminder of why you should be more careful with your digital footprint.

It's more than "We won't erase your account because we don't want to." It's more "We won't erase your account because we have a policy in place to basically never erase accounts." The number of exceptions to that policy over the past, oh, decade or so can probably be numbered on one hand, and even those were considered mistakes. You're asking us to break that policy and be one of those incredibly rare exceptions. You're asking us to break precedent and do something we basically never do because you want us to. We ask a reason because, frankly, we don't see any reason to break precedent, and so far, you've just reinforced that we're not breaking precedent.

Well, if my account can't be erased... would there be any way to erase my posts, then?

That wouldn't happen even if your account was deleted, so no.
