I've already had that confusion (someone saw Sonic Thrash, said I should ask "DalekSam" for permission even though that's me, lol), but the best you can really do I think is have some sort of trust that the uploader will be the creator. You can also check previous names that Steam user has used on their page, and of course there's their url which can be a hint as well.

I agree that some verification could be used, but the best we can really do about that is have official SSRG and Sonic Retro endorsed collections.

Well you simply could. You have your youtube channel here so why not post your SSRG profile on the steam uploads?

Hey Crash we were given an apology by Shroomy for him getting mad at me for telling him to take down Sonic Tetris, and for uploading it. I'm guessing you may have got it too? If not I can post it here. Sent it to me on Soundcloud, and by the way Shroomy, if you are on SSRG and see this, you are forgiven.

Its good sign if the uploader has uploaded many unrelated hacks, that they in fact are not related. Also checking SSRG and Retro is useful :V

 

Theinvisiblesun came to me, his hack was uploaded and I asked nicely if the guy who uploaded it would remove it, this was yesterday and he was on twice today and didn't respond, I even flagged it and it is still not removed, so Theinvisblesun needs your guys help as well. Oddly, this bloke removed my entry after a nice note. So dunno, its possible he didnt check it or he is not responding to someone who is not the mod author.

 

Most likely because I am not Theinvisiblesun, but it shouldn't matter and why would I make it up, it's kind of rude for him to ignore me just because I am not the mod author. Hold on ill send the link to that steam post for him, he might listen then.

 

Ask the mod author to provide an official statement and maybe private message him directly including a screencap. If he does not listen you can use the same screencap to prove the mod author said so.

So, I am getting kinda pissed with some people on the workshop. So what I do? Make a condescending video about it! Aren't I mature!

Just posting to remind everyone that apparently there's nothing we can do to stop these people, and that if we even try, we're just going to make it worse. Yes, 'don't struggle, it will be over sooner' is what the theif-sympathisers are using against us.

Enable SRAM in ROM header, save any value between $01 to $FE somewhere in it (odd address), and read the value again, from SRAM. If value appears different, block ROM execution with bra *. As far as I know, most if not all flashcarts support SRAM, and most if not all emulators by default do support SRAM in run-time. This check only need work once in system init.
The ROM will not play on SMDC, because ignoring SRAM.
And the author can submit a different version of ROM with the check removed.

 

Sonic 3 and Knuckles mods can have SRAM, and before you say anything, yes its only 1024, like in Regen.

 

Exactly, which is why I have said to enable SRAM in the first place. The ideas is that with either this check calls the attention to not upload s1/s2 hacks (what i were really focusing to, sorry; the great majority anyway), or calls Sega's attention about their buggy SRAM support.
