Often many members (be it a private chat or generally on the forums), have stated that they'd love to learn how to make music for the Megadrive/Genesis in SMPS format, but find it very difficult to work with the default SCHG SMPS music guide, this excuse is now reaching a point where it isn't funny anymore, to prevent it from recurring, I have taken the time to write a "Step By Step" tutorial. The logic is simple, if it is explained in sections with examples and diagrams, rather than held as simply information on a page, then it's easier to understand and follow.

    http://selbi.hapisan.com/MarkeyJester-SMPSGuide.zip

After extracting, you'll have 3 documents, they must be read in this order:

    00 SMPS SBS Guide (Setup & DAC).doc

    01 SMPS SBS Guide (FM).doc

    02 SMPS SBS Guide (PSG).doc

Read from the beginning please, it will explain anything you need to know, if you notice any spelling mistakes or missing information, then double check to make sure, then post a reply to state what it is. If you have any questions, ask away, and here's hoping that we'll have more musicians showing off their skills on the Megadrive/Genesis.

    I fucking love you Markey!

These documents will be really useful to all people who wants to know how SMPS works. Honestly!

Even though I already know a lot about music. Such as porting songs from other games, XM to SMPS ports, and how SMPS works.

Thanks to: Eduardo Knuckles and MarkeyJester, for the private lessons. =P

This will be really useful since I'm not perfect with coordination flags yet. So, thanks a lot for this guide Markey!

Pretty busy with some website releated stuff in the last time, but I PROMISE, I will read the ENTIRE FUCKING GUIDE once I get some free time as I pretty much have no SMPS experience. Hell, I don't even know how to use XM4SMPS, and the first lines I was able to read are looking pretty welcome (if that makes sense. If not, I just mean that it looks pretty well explained and more or less easy to understand, especially for beginners like me.)

That said, what Carrasco said. =)

Now I actually understand music a little bit more! I ported 2 S3K tracks to Sonic 1

This guide doesn't teach you how to port and fix SMPS Z80 songs dude. =P

On the contrary, although it doesn't necessarily teach "porting", it teaches in a step by step way about the MC68 based driver used in Sonic 1, which is useful "must know" knowledge, required for porting music to "that" driver perfectly.

Glad to see this finally released! =P

This is superb, hopefully it will open doors for people who have had difficulty with things before.

Which could take a long time. Anyways, I did some fixcrap to the .doc files and made them into PDF files. Anyone interested?

For everyone's pleasure, download it here.

Just noticed I did this quite some time ago, so there isn't all that much fixcrap, but more design changes. And of course PDF format.

I would like a hotshare link to this resource, Markey. The other links are inaccessable because of Trend Micro Internet Security (URL Filter: File Exchange Service).

EDIT: Never mind, I used developers tools to find the direct download link on 2shared.

EDIT 2: Quick question, MJ, are the principals mentioned in the tutorials the same for disassemblies, for the music binaries, that is?

Yes, the same rules apply towards disassemblies, the tutorial will explain the process so be sure to read through.

i know this is an old topic and such, but i think it would be worthless to make a topic for this
