Any chance you can take your inflated ego and arrogant self and fuck off somewhere else with it?

This is exactly the kind of thing the staff here are fed up with. Over the top and downright rude responses that are just uncalled for. Yes, the game is buggy and yes he is probably aware of that and did release it too early. However, this is not a final product and is clearly a work in progress, and there is nothing to say that these issues won't be fixed.

Consider this your only warning, next time you'll be taking a compulsory holiday. I'm just about sick of seeing this bullshit now.

I would gladly, if saying what I feel about the hack is not allowed. Sure, maybe I could have said it nicer, but I see no reason for it. Or am I not allowed to call something that to me is a piece of shit, a piece of shit? Do I need to call it "not good"? I think for the level of "not good" I was giving a fair review of my thoughts on this "not good" work. I would understand your response if I was outright unreasonable or even incorrect, but I dont think anyone here has other problem than the way I expressed my displeasement for it. But whatever, its your game how badly you want to police speech. If its to the point I cant say anything in negative tone I'll gladly take a vacation.

I think the level of aggression behind your post was more than unreasonable. If you think something is shit then you are free to say that, but you push the boundaries when you start verbally attacking the person just because you decided you didn't like it. Was it necessary to accuse someone of "jerking off" just because you don't feel they're at your level? The only person I can see who's "jerking off" is you, over your own perceived ability and inflated ego. Other people managed to be somewhat constructive while also saying that they thought it was buggy and disappointing, so why do you feel the need to go one further and make it personal?

Ok fair enough, that was a poor way to put it. I did not mean in an attacking tone but I can see how you could think so.

    I second her reasoning here.
Any who things that I noticed that were:
    • You removed the speedcap but your level design doesn't complement this at all
    • The level design is honestly quite atrocious, mainly due to my above statement and just odd choices (springs randomly sitting in the middle of running pathways, bottomless pits abound.)
    • At a point the title card is still partially on the screen even though it's supposed to have unloaded
    • Ending a level causes you to die. (??????)
    • The background scrolling. What in the hell is happening there.
    • Slowdown. Much, much slowdown.
    • Badniks are in cheap places.
    • Broken collision(or missing walls?) You can phase through walls and end up falling to your death.
    • Still more slowdown
    • Going off screen (via the ceiling) kills you as well.

I'm a little confused here. How accurate a recreation of Socket is this? Are the levels one-for-one recreations? I ask because people are criticising (and praising) them as if you made them yourself. As I've learned from Painto Edition, with its Bridge Zone recreation, people may sacrifice playability for accuracy, hence Bridge Zone being a bottomless pit nightmare, and I feel, if you're really going mainly for the novelty, I don't mind the original's cracks showing.

Apart from the lack of the polish this hack has and apart from the fact it made me rage a little, I quite like this hack and I can see that it has some potential.

also, I recorded my own gameplay video of the hack.

Thanks everybody for the feedback! (And Abysmal Leopard for the high-res GHZ Ball)

I have fixed these 4 bugs (minus porting the Speed Dash yet), and will be working on your and Xeal's other ones for the next demo build.

A rather accurate recreation of Socket. The levels chunks are ripped from Socket using Technokami's Socketripper tool to recreate the levels, and I am cross referencing with a Socket ROM to create accurate level and object layouts, with some minor changes to object types and positions for some areas (especially the floating platforms in TrCZ). Acts 1 & 2 are recreations of Socket levels, while act 3 is an original act.

First off... I tested this on Kega Fusion. And I played act 3 of Treasure Castle and then at the boss area it crashed.

I think I need to shift the position of the DLEs in the boss areas a tad to fix it (sometimes the boss will appear if you run towards the DLE position and jump). Regardless, the stock Sonic bosses are just placeholders for now until when I recreate Socket bosses.

Made some progress on EFZ1 & 2, as well as implemented much better ports of Socket music thanks to ValleyBell's GRC2MID tool.

This truly is coming along rather well, glad to finally view Emerald Forest getting some love in this portion of the updates, this is starting to look more and more accurate to Time Dominator First by the second; it also looks as if you have improved the physics for when Sonic is rolling on hills and slopes as well, something that was a ridiculous pain in the First Alpha Build of this ROM hack.
There are two things that had caught my attention in the update/progress footage that you presented here for Emerald Forest; I'm sure that they'll be edited for the Revision 00 Build, but it makes sense to point them out, anything to improve the overall quality a good bit:

~ Bottom Row of the mountains in the background, they are cut off at the very top, looks as if they might need to be edited accordingly to prevent the tips of them from looking flat.
~ The ported music for EFZ is at a significantly lower pitch than that of the original game, probably about 01.70% lower in pitch (more like a PAL game's audio, really) while the tempo is still accurate; I presume that this is probably due to the way that the track was converted, but it made sense to point it out, hearing it that low in pitch truly had caught me off guard and I'm sure that others might have noticed it as well, it's a virtually accurate conversion but needs the pitch raised by 01.70% to sound more accurate to the NTSC builds' track.

Got the deform layer fixed for EFZ, and will work on fixing the Socket ports' pitch closer towards v0.2 release (was using wrong tempo factor in MID2SMPS conversions from GRC2MID outputs, and need to apply the fixes to PSG3 Noise channel).

Worked on implementing a new special stage system last week (for High Speed Zone special stages) and other things

    • HSZ1 level completed
    • Big Rings now take you to normal platforming levels (HSZ acts)
      • Hitting signpost at end of HSZ act awards emerald and shows SS Results screen
      • Dying in an HSZ act shows SS Results screen but awards no emerald
      • Completing/dying a HSZ act takes the player back to the next normal level
    • Animated objects for HSZ
      • Clock
      • Electric Orb
      • Fan
    • Created diagonal springs
    • Created S3K-styled horizontal springs (can bounce off of them in the air)
    HSZ1:

The new SS system is mostly working, although with some graphical glitches and a warp issue after completing a SS I need to fix

I think Socket's tiles indeed work very well for a game with Sonic mechanics. Just make sure the zones don't look too chaotic as Socket's tiles tend to do that quickly.

It's a pretty cool rendition if you ask me, works quite well as Sith said, I am also pleased to see the scrolling is done properly too, as well as an almost accurate port/remade of the original soundtrack~ My only concern is the layout being rather linear, but I assume this is nothing more than a work in progress, so I'll leave my criticism to a null d=

So, I finally gave this hack a try after a long time of disregarding it, and well, the most annoying thing about it is the parallax scrolling.

    Then I saw this:
    Oh dear...

While I was proud of the tool at the time of creation, nowadays it just annoys me. The biggest problem is that it uses bit shifts for the speed variations, which result in fucking mop speed for anything above speed 3 or something. I recommend that you mess with those a little, by like multiplying a fixed value with the camera position instead of multiplying the camera position itself. That should result in way cleaner parallax.

Sorry for the misconception and inconvenience caused. :V

In my opinion this hack is very well made. But why don't you just name it Sonic 1 Socket Edition?

Sonic 1 _ Edition is an overused title and people are trying to avoid using it. That's why Painto changed the name of his hack from Sonic 1 Burned Edition to Sonic 1 Scorched Quest. Also, it's probably not a good idea to suggest hack titles to people who are fine with the hack title they have.
