Greetings ladies and gentlemen~ Are you tired of dick moves in Sonic games? Do you hate that you cannot see things off-screen? Are you unable to dodge things without lizard reflexes? Well fear no more!! Sonic 1 featuring a new revolutionary "Dick Move Prevention" mechanism, for all those pesky off-screen annoyances. Download "now i've seen everything... and that's the point!" - MegaGWolf "Now we don't need to backport 16:9 aspect ratio to Mega Drive to make Sonic playable, you dumbasses" - Miss Fox "are you trying to save VRAM that badly? :v" - Sik Spoiler A special thanks to Natsumi for bug testing, while not entirely bug free, it is certainly better than its proto version.
Hah! This is great. I was confused why you were using a smaller font for the post, but it now makes sense. As for the game itself, I think the reduced size of the levels and objects could genuinely be used for saving on VRAM and allowing for a better view. Though there is the obvious issue of sprite flickering, because of course: Smaller objects means more objects on screen, more objects on screen means sprite flickering. Great stuff, even as a joke.
One thing I found a little odd was the speed of the sonic. because in this game, just seeing the speed I already think the sonic has 900 kilos of fat, only the camera that doesn't record it more or less until sometimes creative modification.
Reminds me of if someone tried to mirror Game Gear Sonic to the TV... or something like that. I'm more baffled at how you even did this, you keep amazing me with each ROM hack.
This was excellent proof of concept, also liked the small additional touches to this like the higher pitched sounds and music. =3 Those people who claim "Sonic was never good" due to their complaint of "not being able to react to things off screen" should definitely play this to see if that supposed "stigma" of Classic 2D Sonic's still holds.
Please, cancel SHC, I found the best hack of the 2019 year! It's kinda brilliance and have a good realisation with that sounds and little-cutesy sprites. Hack reminds me that: Spoiler: Hack by Vladikcomper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pz5dlbOCE8
This was hilarious. I had a massive smile on my face the whole time while playing this. I just wish the whole game was playable like this
It's funny you should mention VRAM, a concern was actually that it'd cost MORE VRAM initially, which is why I stopped working on this back in 2015. A big concern was the fusing of four tiles together in a single tile, specifically the palette lines, priority, and not to mention the endless combinations of four tiles together being a unique tile. I was expecting it to be more difficult that it ended up being. I was surprised to find that most of GHZ uses the same palette line and/or same priority, and the same four tiles together in a chunk, thus, VRAM ended up being not as large as initially anticipated all them years ago. Also~ Cheers MegaGWolf d=
This is... actually really fun. I think I prefer it over normal Sonic 1 a bit. If this didn't have the pitch shifted music and more levels (i'm assuming it stops after GHZ) I'd totally play it all the way through.
This was very fun, even if it was for a joke. I love the pitch shifted music especially. I'd love if this went past Green Hill Zone, I'd play it all the way through.
