I was sitting on my porcelain throne around this time last year. SHC 2019 had finished, and I had played a little hack called Kaizo Sonic 2. I was turned off by its shallow attempts at being "difficult", as it relied on being a Kaizo to have any sort of difficulty. I thought to myself, "Surely there must be a better way to have difficult romhacks..."

And that's when it hit me. I could make a hack like no one had ever seen, one that would supersede all that came before it in difficulty. A hack only meant...

    FOR UBER PLAYERS

Sonic 1: For Uber Players features 4 painful acts: Green Hill acts 1-3, and Marble Zone act 2. These levels were meticulously designed by myself to be as hard but also as polished and fair as I could make them.

    ABC = Jump
    Down + ABC = Spindash

Invincibility music will play the Zone Music instead of the Boss theme if it runs out during a boss battle.
Invincibility music will not stop if you have speed shoes when it runs out. The zone music will resume when the speed shoes run out.

Comments and critiques are appreciated, I would like to improve this hack as much as I can so I can hopefully give it a full release sometime next year. I wanted to get more done for this demo but I'm so goddamn drained of motivation that I decided to release it instead of letting it rot forever.

Finally a decent Kaizo Sonic hack! One that doesn't have a bunch of crappy objects floating everywhere, filled with stupid traps, and bad music! Seriously this looks promising, and I like the music you've added. I only made it to GHZ Act 2, but I had more fun playing this than any other Kaizo hack.

oh come on that was my first hack :c

Jokes aside, I do admit Kaizo Sonic 1 was a really bad ROM hack, and looking back now, I get why people didn't like it before. That was a massive eyesore with a bunch of badly placed stuff.
But that was my first time attempting something like that.

I just hope I'll get to make Kaizo Sonic 2 look aesthetically better for the eye and the brain than the first one. I'm gonna start posting the levels here so I can get some feedback and possibly some help to make these levels. I'll be honest, Kaizo Sonic 2's traps might still look cheap even after this (About... 9 of the 18 acts in the game, not counting SCZ and DEZ), but that's because I have progressed way too much on these levels (most of them being complete) for me to just scrap everything and start over.
But I'll try to make it easier on the untouched acts.

Maybe I can learn something from this hack. I don't wanna make the same mistakes as I did for Kaizo Sonic 1.

And don't forget about the invisible blocks too.

A difficult, yet fair challenge. I didn't want to tear my hair out playing this hack, a rarity for Kaizo hacks.
Well done, my only problem is the CD spindash but that's more personal preference. Music choices are really solid as well.

Not a bad challenge hack! Was difficult but rewarding, especially on the 1-ups. Aside from a few spots where you would go quick and be shot right into a spike pit, the levels were enjoyable for what it is so far. Music is quite nice too, sadly Act 1 suffers a lot with being cut out by sound effects.

Alright, thanks for the feedback so far! I'm working to finish the remainder of MZ and start on SYZ before releasing another build. I'll also try and rectify the issues mentioned here. I'll have the update posted in due time.

It’s nice to finally see a fairly good Sonic kaizo ROM hack. I gave kaizo Sonic 1 and 2 a go, and let’s just say, they were not that good.
