Irixion not every single sonic hack needs the speed cap removed. And he never said knuckles was finished, Even if it was adding a new character still takes effort to get working correctly so don't put him(her?) down for that.

Estlib try adding a small bevel you may like the results.

Speedcap makes the hack less enjoyable. 'I'm sonic, sonic the slow ass hedgehog'.

It doesn't have to be removed, but it makes it more enjoyable. If you never 'finish' knuckles then it would just be a sprite edit and wouldn't make the hack interesting.

I disagree. People are free to do what they want with their hacks. The fact that we know how to do something doesn't mean that we're forced to do that. Today it seems that the Spin Dash, the Spike Bug Fix, and the Speed Cap Removal are a given for Sonic 1 hacks, but the truth is that there is only one person entitled to do those calls. Some years ago, a Sonic 1 hack with the Spin Dash and the Spike Bug Fix was somewhat legendary because nobody knew how to do that; later, a Sonic 1 hack without the Spin Dash and with the Spike Bug still intact was somewhat seen as bad because "you don't know how to do that? Gee, you suck"; nowadays I think we've grown up enough to realise that there are tutorials and test builds everywhere, so the lack of a feature from a specific hack isn't due to its creator's inability to implement it, but it's rather a precise development choice we all should respect. Different people may have different goals, you know.

As a small off-topic sidenote, I didn't remove the Speed Cap in my hack. So there, you have your test case.

    Very well put, nineko. ;)

This hack is not any less appealing or otherwise awesome simply because of a specific choice on the part of its creator. If you don't like it, then nobody is forcing you to play the hack; I'm going to continue to enjoy it for what it is, however, and I think it's rather dumb for you to deprive yourself because of a couple of small factors that don't matter in the long run.

Did Sonic 1 suck when it was released because it had a cap on your top speed? No--it was the start of a fantastic game series that people continue to enjoy to this day. I've even experienced different situations which lead me to believe that the speed cap in and of itself was a totally concious decision on the part of the original game's developers, just as with the spike behavior. People assume these are bugs because the behavior was changed in later games, but was it really?

I don't think it was, and I'll show you why.

(Okay, I couldn't resist that XD)

I think people need to stop making assumptions about why certain things are the way they are and just respect a hack author's decision to choose what goes in their hack. If there are available means, then assume there's a reason they chose not to implement the feature in question. That's what it comes down to, really.

Yes, it's punching you in the face for pointing out a minor flaw without even a hint of a positive comment.
