This is one of the hacks at SHC '14 that I really enjoyed. Granted, I didn't 100% complete it, but I did get all the emeralds and Super Sonic. Speaking of which, it kind of sucks how you can't use the midair moves (double jump, jumpdash) as Super Sonic. I constantly forgot about that and kept detransforming, which was kind of annoying.

I guess that you're using A button - double jumping with A button actually transorms/detransforms Sonic to his Super form. It is possible to dobule jump/jump dash with B/C buttons as Super Sonic.

Oh it is? Huh. Thanks for telling me, I hardly ever use the B and C buttons, guess they'll have some use now.

Yes, it's today. I will write a full release post around 4pm (CEST). And the best change of this version is it's hardware compatibility :>

Haazim, I know, You want to explain something to people, by talking English at your best, but no. Please stop wasting your posts in this way and go reading the rules of SSRG. I know you're bad at english, So if you want people to clearly understand you, please go outside this place for a moment and try learning some proper english. No, I'm not rushing you, just saying that if you continue talking this way, you can't make people understand you, even worse, you'll only be embarrassing yourself.

*waits a permaban for backseat modding*

It is the great news for my tablet, since I usually play hacks on tablet, and since it has only MD.emu installed.

    (version 3.0)

    ------------
As announced, today is release of 3.0 version. This version is a total change compared to previous versions. Time to some info about changes:
    Zones

There are 3 playable zones in this version:

    Green Garden Zone

    [IMG][IMG]

    [IMG][IMG]

Just another Green Hill-esque zone. All 4 acts of the Zone are playable. Zone was initially meant to be a port of Azure Lake Zone from Sonic 3, but due to lack of knowledge the zone's art is totally custom. Boss fight is pretty like in previous version, but the exact fight from 2.0 is used as pinch mode.

    Bridge Zone

    [IMG][IMG]

    [IMG][IMG]

This one is from 2.0 version. The differences are acts 3 & 4, for which I did new layouts. All 4 acts of the Zone are playable. My biggest and best new thing in 3.0's Bridge is definetely the boss. I will don't tell how looks the fight, just see it by yourselves.

    Cheese Cave Zone Act 1

    [IMG][IMG]

    [IMG][IMG]

The last playable zone is Cheese Cave Zone from 2.0. Only first act is playable, but it's because I spent the longest time on making it. All the act is based on puzzles with buttons, dodging enemies and getting air. Almost all of the areas are underwater. No boss there.

    Special Stages

    [IMG][IMG]

There are 3 edited Special Stages and 3 unedited. Each Special Stage have his own music. Collecting all 6 Chaos Emerald allows you to turn into Super Sonic like in 2.0.

First stage is from 2.0, so you know how it looks.

The second one is pretty short. You start in a corridor then you need to break blocks to get into a big room with emerald in center of breakable blocks.

The third one is the longest. There are 9 big rooms which are connected one with another leading to the room with emerald. There are also 2 bonus rooms, where are GOAL blocks and 1-ups.

Tip: the closer to emerald you are, the in exits from rooms are stronger.

    Other features

    Sound Test Menu

In 3.0 version there appears a totally new Sound Test menu, which allows you to listen all the songs and SFX's from the hack. More info in README.

    Special Stage Rings

The Special Stage Rings, now are working like in S3&k, but of course it isn't perfect port. There is one ring per act, so you have 9 oportunities to get emeralds (and you can fail 3 times). They also act as checkpoint. I'm not giving any tips for it's locations - search them by yourselves.

    Level Select Menu

Basically is nothing special, but it allows you to select one of playable acts. To access it, play 4 songs in the Sound Test in correct order.

Tip: It's on my SSRG profile.

    Known issues

    • When Special Stage Ring appears on screen and you don't go to special stage, the art will be glitched.
    • Sometimes in Special Stage the art can dissapear in certain areas (I guess is VRAM).
    • After the music fades out, new sound effects won't play (althrough the ones played right before fading out will work).
    ------------
Credits and some other stuff can be found in README file.

    ------------

    DOWNLOAD

I hope you'll like it. Feel fre to comment, write suggestions and report any problems other than from setcion "Known issues" (with description what happened and what you did to trigger it).

INB4: I didn't cancelled The Main Zone, Skill Shop and the things from 2.0. Just they aren't playable.

EDIT: Can someone rename the thread so there will be "Edition" instead of "edition"? Done.

Umm, you can do it by editing first post of this topic.
BTW, love this hack so much! A lot of effort had been put into version 3, and all of them are very fitting to your hack. Custom art is very good on eyes. Also wanna say thanks to Clownacy, because only with his help I tried this powerful hack. 11/10

I'm gonna play this blind and fresh.

For a start, there are way too many splash screens, maybe you should removing some or at least fuse a few of them together? On a positive note, the level designs are nice to look at, they're clean, and nothing seems obviously glitched out! Upon playing the first level, I was automatically pushed on start up, and landed on an enemy, I can't help thinking that was intentional, but still, geez man... So unfair. The same thing happened again when I spindashed through a wall later on the level!

Directly after that, there's a spring that doesn't quite lift Sonic up high enough to reach the top, you can just about reach it if you move to the left, but that's besides the point. The layout and object positioning in general aren't too bad though, it's just those minor things. Nothing looks out of place, which is cool.

The loops that don't go fully around (i.e. the loop into vertical fall often found in SLZ) appear to have a block that's missing solidity, as a result, when spinning at full speed, I hit a stop on the curve going up. And at one point, some of the badniks' art started glitching out, I believe their art was being overwritten by a large ring =%

Act 2's colours were wonderful! Full, vibrant and nice to look at! One thing about the first Zone design though, is that it's difficult to tell what's solid and what's not, because the solid and un-solid walls all look exactly the same.

Sonic 3's invincible theme, I've always loved that theme. And good fucking lord, these special stages are a real challenge, but definitely fun ones, it makes the whole rotating maze concept much more interesting!

I'm not a fan of the boss, and it's nothing to do with difficulty, it's to do with being the same old "hey, let's swing the ball around the different direction somehow" or "Let's make it swing round like Megamix's one, but do a shittier job at it". Don't get me wrong, yours does work, but it's all getting rather old now...

The second Zone, you did it again!! You pushed me right into a yadrin on startup!! =(

Despite that, I do have to appreciate the simplicity of the level designs. This bridge zone feels rather accurate to me, you've even reused objects that fit the original level concept perfectly! You even put a special stage ring in the place that the original title placed its emerald, and you'd have to use the bridge to get to it (not 100% in the context, but that's brilliant!). Bravo there! I'm also detecting a nice variation in the special stages, the third one felt almost as if you recreated one of Sonic 3's special stages in Sonic 1's maze format, that was a lot of fun to get through!

Your cheese zone was an "interesting" zone, but the layouts were entertaining. And I regret to inform you that I was one emerald short =(

All in all, it's a fun hack to play, and above standard from what we normally see. Well done, and to those who helped work on the hack.

If you mean these at game startup, I've seen more. I don't remember in which hack, but there were. One splash I can remove is "Painto Maniak Presents" one.
Hmmm, after thinking, I will remove these piranha badniks.

I will look at that point. And thenks fo the positive opinion.

Hm, I don't know why this happens, but I seen it earlier. Just forgot to put in Known Issues.

Believe me or not, but it's almost the original palette from GHZ. There are just some minor changes. And also, I don't know how to show which wall are solid and which not.

Thanks again. I made both Stages 2 & 3 during last weekend.

I know that this boss edit is old and known everywhere, but I suck at coding. Also, what you think about Bridge Zone boss?

This one was there in 2.0, so I don't see the point of removing it.

Yes, I used the 3rd Special Stage from Sonic 3 as a base, but due that the one from S3 was too small for S1 maze standards i did my own based on it.

And thanks again. I worked hard on that layout and it's definetely the best layout I did ever IMO.

And thanks again. For your opinion and for that it was positive :D

    Painto, thanks for release.

I recommend you to make cheese cave zone really cheesy, with stalactites, molten cheese and mouses.

Maybe nacho cheese lava :D There's a lot to play around with when it comes to cheese. Maybe you can make custom cow badniks!

S3&K Painto Edition Lava Reef Zone = Molten Cheese Zone

On topic though I just played a bit of this and I like it.

The special stages are well designed. I like the first one where you had to guess where to go and pick your path. 1 of the paths will let you live but the other ones send you back to the zone you were in. This is a unique idea I have never seen before so good job.

The level layouts are great to. I was exploring the level a lot on my first playthrough and found a lot of shields and coins. The layout is rewarding the player for exploring parts of the act which is good level layout. I also had fun just trying to get through the zone as fast as I could on my second playthrough. Green Grove is the best zone in the hack so far. Bridge had too many death pits in my opinion ( I lost over 9 lives!). When I died at some of the bottomless pits at there I thought that it was unfair. I had no time to react at the speed I was going. After I get rid of one of those death pit sections I normally just speeded ahead thinking that there was not going to be another bottomless pit for some time. But then I yet again fall into a bottomless pit. I think this is a bit unfair since I don't see it coming most of the time.

Have not played past bridge act 1 yet. Will post again on my future opinions.

For now though this is a very fun hack to play. Great job on the hack!

Playing through the first level and a bit of bridge zone, I decided to put what I have here now:

Emerald Hill Zone uses seperate graphics for solid walls (They kinda look like checkered pillars), which would be great to differentiate between solid and non-solid walls.

The auto-start setup, while neat, seems sloppy at times, particularly in Bridge Zone. Act one has a badnik in the way, which is okay I guess, but act 2 has a badnik and an immediate death pit! Running makes you hit the badnik, but rolling launches you to your doom! Perhaps you could disable the momentum at start feature on levels like this?

On the positives, the layout for the First zone is rather nice, and has great art to fit it. There are secrets, hidden all around, but not to hard to find (a plus for the beginning of the game). The S3K style rings are cleverly hidden, and purposefully show themselves off early into the game, which again, is great (I can't tell you how pissed I get when I go through a more modern sonic game and never once see a special stage, the advance series is incredibly guilty of this).

Edit: I found out  a way to access the other incomplete zones that aren't in the release. I'm not saying how, but I want to make sure Painto is okay with me talking about them before I try to review them.
