Awesome! I totally love it! Nice going! Only thing, the size of that boss looks a little pathetic, unfortunately. Maybe if you gave it arms that threw the projectiles and made the boss hover up and down a little, it'd be much better. Still incredible nonetheless.

It does hover up and down, even with the crap quality of the video, it shows him hovering =P

Yes quite an impressive boss you got there. I personally am not bothered about those Robotnik sounds being in there, I myself wouldn't have them.

Interesting concept for a boss, having a second phase is cool also, congratulations on getting it produced. As for Robotnik's voice, I think it's a great idea, but what he says is a little offputting, I mean "You little" for example, I just, I donno, I guess I can't see Robotnik saying anything like that when he's hit. That's just a personal preferrence though.

If you want something funny to put in, try this at 2:24 YouTube Link =P

Clips are from Sonic Advance 3, fyi, which were used in the same circumstances. (Hit Eggman, he'll say things, etc)

XD I don't ever remember him saying that!

Yes, the voices are indeed from Sonic advance 3.

Since this video, the boss has got slightly tougher as StephenUK found it too easy. Before pinch mode, nothing has changed. But when in Pinch mode, he fires the spike balls a bit earlier and then more often. When you have to hit him 3 more times, the spike balls will actually home in on your x_pos and will flash and make a different sound.

Looks a lot better, apart from that grey part, I don't understand what its supposed to be. I mean it looks kinda nice, but it doesn't seem to fit in the beach kinda feel level.

I was testing out some rock art, it won't stay like that, sand will be the primary ground texture, but under the sand will be some rock, and some rock ledges will stand up from the sand just to vary the art up a bit.

Here is a new video! Please note, the Title screen is a work-in-progress!

Edited SEGA logo by me, SSRG screen by MarkeyJester, and then a Work-in-Progress title screen by me. Pressing start will make the "Press Stat Button" rapidly flash and take you to Portal. Then hitting logo 1 takes you to West Bay. Notice the smoothness of the title card font when entering and leaving the area. And that it comes from one side, then exits another side (whereas Sonic 2, it entered and exited the same side).

I then restart the game, and go to the title screen again, entered a cheat, and show you the "Cheats Enabled" text, then entering level select. It also enables Debug too, which is demonstrated in Gem Runway 2.

What do you lo think so far?

    EDIT:

Please be warned, because of Youtube's shit quality, it may be hard to notice

    • Press Start Button rapidly flashing when presseing start
    • Sonic's burst looking odd in Gem Runway 2

Everything looks really cool. I just noticed that the West Bay music seems to don't fit to the level theme/style. This is a waste, because this excellent hack obviously deserves a epic soundtrack. Sorry if I sounds rude, but this level song specifically didn't fit. =/

Gem Runway looks gorgeous. Same for the title screen, even being a work in progress is impressive. Surely the hack was giantly improved since the last videos, but you need to be careful with the music. Because the soundtrack is something which needs to have a special dedication, specially when you have levels with beautiful art. A special admiration to Zana, which made the background art of gem Runway.

Epic job, RHS. But I want more. This level footage is too short. :)

West Bay Zone has placeholder music. We've been meaning to change it for a LONG time, but we're not sure what to use. Act 2 is also to be changed.

The rest of the music has been done by ValleyBell, which you haven't heard yet. And I can promise you, you will not be disappointed =)

Thanks, guys. I'm glad you like the new SEGA screen. I might make Sonic burst past it rather than run past it for more effect next.

Anyway, here is more cool stuff (if you find it cool anyway).

I've already shown you lot the ARZ boss and my new "Gem Runway" boss. But, I have updated them both. They're now harder. And there's a new feature to them both.

What's new to both (all) bosses?

The first thing you will notice is that the bosses has a new Eggman counter. Yup, it's his hit counter. But unlike some hacks, where the counter just appears out of nowhere, the counter actually comes from the right hand side. It's at 0, then counts up to 16 (number of times you have to hit Eggman). When it reaches 0, when Eggman exits, the counter goes off to the right hand side again. This happens on ALL bosses.

Note, in the ARZ boss you're about to see, it goes up to 15. This is because I hit Eggman before the counter had a chance to finish counting up lol

Also, my "Nuts and Bolts" coding has greatly improved. I manage to shave a lot of cycles on it. So now, when Eggman explodes, it won't have to work as hard spawning all them nuts and bolts. You should see it moving a lot clearer than it used too. Except from that, there's no difference to the object itself.

    ARZ boss

The ARZ boss has been updated since last showing. The first 8 hits, nothing has changed from normal Sonic 2. After that, Pinch mode begins, and the water rises, which you all knew from the old videos. What's new, is that a spike on each totem pole now appears; stopping you from going on top of them; forcing you into the water.

After another 2 hits, Eggman will start to fire 2 arrows at a time. The second arrow will never be fired in the same place as the first one. When you need to hit Eggman one more time, he will fire 3 arrows!

This boss also demonstrates the underwater sound driver very well (done by ValleyBell as you all know). I quite like the sound of the explosions when underwater personally.

    Gem Runway boss

Gem Runway's boss. I got told that Eggman entering from the right hand side (through a wall) looked too weird. I agreed. So he now enters from above (and exits above too). Again, the first 8 hits haven't changed. Ater that, pinch mode begins. Basically, the spike balls start to appear a little bit earlier. Then, when there are 3 hits left, the spike balls will start to home-in on you! So avoid!

So, what do you think? Have I made it too hard? Still too easy? Like it? Dislike it? Let me know!

Also, before entering the boss area, the boss music from Sonic 3D beta 819 will play. But sometimes, the same music from beta 825 (extra drums) will play (as demonstrated in the Gem Runway video). If you hear this version, that means the boss you're about to go against is a brand new boss!

Wow cool new features I assume when you go underwater the feedback of the fm instruments gets set to zero and when you go back above water the values are restored. I think you have a great hack with unique features.

Boss wise, its quite impressive. Although giving robotnik voices is unique, I personally find it irritating to a point I would refuse to hit robotnik just to avoid hearing OW! constantly, but thats my opinion. The counter is a simple yet neat idea, not sure if you'd personally need it but again a matter of opinion. There is alot of unecessary flashing when you hit the boss if you know what I mean.

As for the difficulty, I dunno I couldn't tell you till I actually played it. Also yes, I saw the Segascreen, you've got nothing to worry about its fine ;).

if you goto the last page and click on the youtube link that markey jester posted you will find a much better voice I think it would be better to hear that every time you hit robotnik Anyways there is thread called sonic 1 mega pcm so I downloaded valikcompuer's "clean" dissasembly but instead it included alot of extra features like jumpdash and spindash I did not add those the only thing I added is when you hit robotnik he says "bastard hedgehog"
    Dissasembly: http://sonicresearch...158

My rom: I have also included the original wav file and the .snd headerless wav file that is stored a 22khz 8bit mono

No, I don't know. I've been told Regen is the closest emulator to real hardware and it works on that.
