As time has gone by, Sonic Rush hacking has opened up more and more of the game (for me at least). Here is some of the content I have so-far modded, and am ready to share: Listed here: - Chemical Plant Zone Boss (Prototype) - Shadow the Hedgehog over Blaze the Cat Mod (Beta - Download Here) Some videos are recorded in a modified DS emulator that makes models higher resolution than DS hardware can display. (I cut the results in the video for Chemical Plant's boss, but the screenshot above shows such.) Earlier Videos: (1v) Earlier Screenshots: (1) (2) Original Post: Note: Images and videos of this post have been moved outside of this "hidden" box. You will see where they stood as "snipped," along with a number, along with a V if it was a video. Corresponding moved content is labeled to the left in parentheses. So, I've been playing around with Sonic Rush, and I've finally done a few things other people said were "impossible," as was implied here on Retro. These include: Sonic over Blaze Sonic Rush Texture modding (Maybe more cracking & hacking sooner or later?) An entire reboot of the game is now decided, with new levels, new menus, new object artwork, and so on! Examine: Sonic over Blaze - -snip- (1) LOL, rocket shoes! EDIT: Now with Shadow! And, as on the Character Selection Screen - -snip, snip- (2) Gosh, I sure hope this hint on what I'm working on sure proves something, or at least motivates more DS hacks. Later this week or next, I plan to provide a ROM and/or YouTube Video. Download is here (direct link), video below. -snip- (1v)
Awesome! For a time I expressed interest in hacking the GBA games, but I wasn't able to find much in that regard. If things go well, this could lead to a brand new DS hacking scene!
Alright, so I've been playing with the levels, and so far it looks easy to get into. It's a lot like MegaDrive hacking, just Nintendo's compression types. I'll show it when I make something with it. In the meantime, I'll add the video up top when it finishes uploading, and here's the download link: (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw4TswbxjIZLYTljNVk2aTJCeGs/view)
Not sure if you find it useful, but few years ago I wrote some Python scripts for bb/bbg (background) and bac (sprite) format extracting/reinsertion (with the same palette). They were used to translate the game into another language, since it has all the text, including story dialogues, stored as images. https://github.com/NotKit/sonic-rush-tools Spoiler
@NeKit, I don't know if it's Python or user error, but those scripts aren't running anything more than "cmd on, cmd off." (Edit: Check your messages, I'll show you what's going on, and we can fix it from there.) ----------------------------------------- News update! Well, I kinda beat you there... Won't take too much longer than the others to put back in-game, since it uses the Super Sonic model instead. But, that's that. (Please, I'd love some criticism on my Shadow model!)
Two new things, including a Shadow playthrough on a normal Zone, and all-new Chemical Plant boss stage prototype footage! Find them up top (in the main post), or in the direct YouTube links below: - Chemical Plant 3D Boss Stage - Shadow over Blaze (Beta)
@Ultima Hawke, weird is one way to put it, but I only plan to include Chemical Plant from Sonic 2. But, everything else I do will be custom. Even Chemical Plant's normal gameplay will include fresh new graphics. I'm going to take a minute to make a ROM of just Shadow over Blaze, so download shortly avaliable. EDIT: Sonic Rush with just Shadow imported, now for download here, and up top. There are three ROMs, one with Shadow on Sonic, one on Blaze, and one made on the E3 Beta.
