I started this at Sonic Retro. While I'm waiting to be approved there, I'll post stuff here (don't worry, I'm not going to post updates every five seconds anymore).

    Features:

    6 completed new zones.

    New music.

    New graphics.

    New coding.

    New boss stages.

Every special stage has been reworked.

Cool hack, I really like your art is really well done, the layout is also decent. Please, keep up the good work.

Like I said on Retro, I love the character style, very Mickey Mouse like. The levels could do with some work though.

I'm inclined to agree with MarkeyJester. While I had no big issues with Glazed Grass Zone 1 and 2's layout in particular, there are a few unfair moments in Act 3 that need to be looked at. In particular, there's a row of falling platforms that I was running along but after the fourth (and before I had to time to react), there was a crabmeat that knocked me back into the pit. I was a bit annoyed to find that there's a lamp post after this area as well.

The second zone (Chaos City) had a lot of moments where I felt enticed to run due to rings leading down a slope with a loop, only to run into a bomb or orbinaut. With orbinauts, even rolling wouldn't stop me getting hit at times due to the new attack pattern they have. I also managed to get stuck behind a block ladder in Act 1 with no way out. It also appears to be the last zone with new layouts, so I'll leave this subject for now.

I'm not a fan of the special stages. I seem to die almost immediately every time due to poor reaction time. Even though I know I've got to move or jump in order to stop hitting a goal block (seems to be the set-up for each stage), I never do so in time. Part of that may be me but I also feel it's a bit unforgiving.

However, some positives because I'm not a complete jerk. I love the art style you have here. It's not something seen often within the Sonic franchise (if at all? Correct me if I'm wrong) and I like it. It adds to the cartoon appeal of the character and I'd love to see more of it. The music choices are also pretty good. They just need to be fixed (drums and samples playing that static noise isn't very pleasant).

Also, in whatever you call Marble Zone, one of the acts has a messed-up layout where you literally can't avoid getting stuck in an area you can't jump out of. Also the lava doesn't do anything.

And in whatever you call Labyrinth Zone, there's an area with a gate where it doesn't open up entirely and when you try to spindash underneath, you end up crushed and die.

And whenever you beat a boss battle (aside from the Final Boss), the game goes back to the opening scenes (the SEGA logo, the Sonic Games Dimensions screen, et al).

And what custom art you have is GORGEOUS, especially the first zone.

Look forward to the next release.

Well I don't have anything to say about the hack as a gameplay perspective since everyone took the words out of my mouth, but as bugs, anyway, there are some addressing errors that need to be addressed with the SLZ boss when playing in Regen, I made screenshots, but ill just list what came up instead. $0001993E$FFFFD9C1, $0001994C$FFFFD9C3, and $0001995A$FFFFDA6F.

Yeah, the hack's nowhere near complete, I forgot to mention. I just wanted to show off what I had so far.

I wanted to upload some screenshots to report some problems, but Imageshack is broken right now, so I can't.

For now I'll just echo a suggestion you already received, if you use songs which use nonstandard drum IDs (such as many of my ones) you should either add those drum samples in your music driver or change the drum IDs in the SMPS files. Or both, which is the best option if you mix songs converted by different people who used different nonstandard IDs in different ways (e.g. $85 might be the cymbal for me but something else for someone else).

Oh, and I LOVE the bouncing on the water surface since I'm an 8-bit fanboy. I know there's a tutorial for that, but it's something rarely seen.

My imageshack is broken too, so shockwave recommended I use this one then.  I spent using it since then. :p

Well, for what it's worth the stuff that's actually working is AWESOME! But please tell me custom art is in the works for the other zones. I can't tell you how many hacks revamp the art for one or two zones and then just tweak the palettes for the rest.

Also, kudos on the new twist on the wrecking ball boss from the first zone.

Now, I'll get back to a few people:

Yeah, they are still in the works. I haven't even started changing Scrap Brain Zone's art.

Sonic Games Dimensions screen? Are you sure you're playing the right hack? Anyways, I made the lava not do anything because standing on lava is kinda dumb (at least from my perspective). I've only finished Act 1 of Marble Zone (or Molten Madness Zone), and I rearranged some 256x256 blocks.

In Labyrinth Zone (Crystal Cave Zone), I only started the beginning of it.

I know, and I chose the second one. I changed Spring Yard Zone (Casino Crisis Zone)'s music to something different than Twinkle Park, which you'll see in the next update. I've changed the notes in the beginning to be a snare instead of a clap.

I remember playing a few other hacks around the time I played yours and I may have mistaken. And lava should do something other than just be there. I mean, you literally sink like nothing's there and the Sonic sprite goes behind it and you can't jump to safety.

Ok um, when we say your layout has some issues it doesn't mean we are suggesting to you to change them back to the original, we just mean we want you to change them so that they are more fair. It felt like I was playing an old version, maybe you provided the wrong file? Also the address errors in the SLZ are fixed but I got an illegal instruction in LZ. $0001328C$00012309, by the conveyor belt. It seems some SLZ bg chunks are off too.

Edit: Its obviously in a beta stage so maybe I should be quiet lol

It's alright to criticize a bit, just as long as it's not "OH NO YOU PUT THE ORBINAUT 1 PIXEL TOO FAR TO THE LEFT THAT'S IT I'M DONE I'M EATING YOUR BABIES!" Just balance out nitpicks from legitimate complains, so you don't need to be quiet.

The beta stage is when you should give the feedback so he can improve it/fix errors in case he hasn't spotted them already (also a way to reproduce the error is extremely helpful).

I only played it a little bit. Skipping around and playing different stages (some unbeatable , like SBZ2 at the end), I figured you meant you completed 6 different stages/acts as opposed to 6 different zones (which would essentially be the whole game from start to finish since it's Sonic 1). It's semantics, but it's important to note that.

In the beatable acts I played, some of the enemy placement was disruptive to the flow since you can't react to them ahead of time (or simply roll to cover your bases). Some other stages were quite short imo and too easy to just hold right and complete in 30 seconds or less.

I like the visual style you're going for as most people have already mentioned. but I'm gonna wait until the game's beatable from start to finish before I leave any more detailed feedback. That's all I have for now.

I did mean six acts, but those are the complete ones.

I'm kind of glad this showed up because what's completed is really good and I haven't really seen you on any other post here, so, as a first appearence here I can definatly say; You're going places.

    Couple things to note.

    • The red blocks in Marble Zone look... kind of ugly. On the contrary, the Labyrinth zone looks beautiful and probably the best art I've seen in a hack this year so far.
    • Uh... Sonic's eyes look like they're out of a creepypasta in his death sprite.
    • Sunset Hill Zone doesn't really work for Scrap Brain - to be honest, the music is a mixed bag at the moment.
    • Final Zone is unedited - I'm gonna assume something's gonna be done there as this is a beta.
    • Using the beta "Shrink" kinda sprite when you hit a goal in the special stage looks kind of goofy.
    • On the topic of Special Stages, I found the only one i could get to, grumble stage fun.
I'm looking forward to progress being made on this one.

I did that in my hack, too, so I disagree with you.
