There needs to be an option where said black bars block the entire screen.

Because black bars make everything better.

I hope you do realize that would defeat the purpose of cineamatics.

Feels cold indeed! Cold and beautiful. I love dithering on blocks, very impressive.

The water palette is just like I imagined it. Great work!

P.S.: But the BG still looks warm as it did in the original LZ =P

Even though the BG looks a bit cooler, I actually prefer the old one. The colour of the BG for the new one seems to be too close to the FG colours.

Except for the background in the new one, I will say that this level is looking very good indeed.

It has a very good looking, but, in my opinion, the BG looks much better with darker colors...

No one mentioning the inconsistency in the block tiles themselves? Like how one side is crystallised and the other isn't? Or the small gradient blocks suddenly go from very bright to very dark? LZ doesn't use that many tiles to begin with, just add some. And the blocks that aren't done just scream lazy.

Well Daleksam, the ones that are crystalized one side is like that as a light from top left, to dark bottom right. Basically dark to light. Otherwise I might as well just create a crystalized block completely but that was not my intention. As for the small blocks, the reason being is because thats how the original LZ block was set up just reusing tiles. However because they are all one colour its not like they clash, when as add some more colour and bam. I am already working on them, so don't worry. I was already aware of this.

P.S: I'm not trying to be lazy, I work hard on my art and will continue to do so.

My first randomly generated level layout :)

It's created in RAM, and in its final version, the length and height will be a little random as well. But since for now it's generated at the "sonic team presents" screen, I have to change the parameters manually to make it generate another layout xD

I still have to actually load it as a level, and I'm not nearly done with the random item placement, but it's a good start.

How random is random? Does it just generate a random array of tiles or does it follow specific criteria during the process to ensure that layout are pieced together properly and flow well? This idea interests me a lot.

I was about to ask the same thing as Stephen, it would seem like a real stupid idea if it didn't... Then again, I suppose with completely random chunks it could open up options you've never thought of before.

I heard someone else on SonicRetro had this idea for his hack, can't remember who though, or whether he ever went through with it.

Either way, this idea still interests me.

Random as a random labyrinth generator. It uses a seed and generates a single playable area so there's always a path from any cell to every other cell.

The labyrinth can technically have up to 240 chunks (though that won't work with s1's level engine), and none will be isolated (but I can do that too, that would only take a few more lines).

For now it only creates a level layout that can be entirely explored, but that was probably the difficult part. I still have to add an entrance and an exit (that's a matter of ~6 lines).

I can also easily make it use more than one set of chunks, but I keep this kind of eye-candy for later.

Gave Sandopolis a new palette, as I think this will fit well.

The pyramids and sand colour in the background are a little too bright compared to the foreground. If they got toned down a bit, it would look much better.

I don't think you have seen much if anything about this game:

it is a two player game

You can customize the color of the car you selected

    /monthly_06_2012/post-1103-0-42116000-1338957467_thumb.png

The goal of the game is to ram into the other players car until they are out of life points (I will add life bar latter)
