I'm back yet again, with another odd version of Sonic 1 that I have in my house. This time, it contains a character that a lot of you might not know of (okay, if you have, then kudos to you).

Once again, here is another ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog that I've created, featuring none other than the titular character from the 1994 Genesis game, Dynamite Headdy, replacing Sonic the Hedgehog.

The sprites for Headdy in this hack were taken directly from the source game, with some minor edits. They aren't complete though, with some sprites (such as the spinning and pushing sprites) still being Sonic himself. This hack also takes advantage of voice samples, of which are also taken from the source game.

Again, this is a personal, private project of myself for many years (I've been doing this since at least 2017), and this is the first time I've shown this one on the net (and the second time I've done so overall). As usual, I won't distribute the ROM for this hack due to personal situations (and don't ask me for one), but once it's ready, expect that to come very soon.

BTW, Dynamite Headdy released on this day 30 years ago in Japan, which is why I had to make this post (and video).
Also, while not surprising enough, this ROM hack is working on real hardware, as shown in the video. Can't you believe it?
And just listen to how clean those PCM samples are... (Thanks to vladikcomper for the Mega PCM 2 driver used in this hack (It was using the original Mega PCM v1.1 driver from the hack's creation up until vladikcomper released Mega PCM 2 in May of this year))

I designed and programmed a brand new fancy Sound test for Sonic ERaZor 7, so I figured it's a good opportunity to showcase it and cover the entire hack's soundtrack as well! This has probably the most Blast processing and VDP tricks I've done on a static screen so far.

Despite being extremely rushed, I'm still happy with the result. Due to deadlines, this was done in a week of non-stop working and many sleepless nights. This was completed 2 hours before the deadline; talk about cutting it close!

here's something I'm working on now!

I am still trying to figure out how to change the colour/color palette of the text in level select as its raw code, and yk, I can only read main code but I did manage getting everything else working, just the text needs to be palette line 1 and its done for level select!

 

Starting to get the hang of working with modding the 2013 version of Sonic 2 here and there, with me changing up some art here and there as well as the layout for Emerald Hill's first act.

 

Seeing Sonic 2 Zeta Overdrive again even if in a 2013 Sonic 2 mode was not in my bingo card at all.

 

Very wip and stuff but since I missed halloween I thought I'd atleast show some progress
