    Last year I made a basic GHZ layout hack, and I made some adjustments based on the feedback I got, and designed two more acts. I added a lot more rings this time (shout out to Project FM's Sonic 3 Object/Ring Manager reference), so I increased the extra life ring count to 120 rings instead, for extra challenge. Let me know what you think!

    It is advised you play the ROM hack before reading my review.

    That was a fantastic experience and challenge. I initially felt that the original ROM hack could have worked well as a Special Stage. While I do still feel that the ROM hack could be integrated into another full fledged game, this can now also work as a fun, standalone experience. I love the gimmicks of Spring Yard and Labyrinth Zone (Especially the latter, though, I have not quite understood how its main gimmick works). One minor criticism I have is that the backgrounds for Cosmic Zone and Spring Yard Zone do not transition quite as seamlessly as I'd like, whenever Sonic goes through a vertical wrap (or whatever makes him teleport from the bottom to the top of the stage and vice versa). Another thing I do not understand is why Sonic drifts to the left of the level.

    I've also spotted a crash in Spring Yard Zone, after failing the level. Here's the log that was left behind by the error handler.

    Thanks for the review, and error report! I've had that crash happen once, but I couldn't replicate it at all.

    Sonic drifts to the left at the end of the stage due to a technical issue I had with the "Retry/Exit" menu that required a certain x positioning as a band-aid solution. I tried to have it function like the Got Through card does, but to no avail.

    For Labyrinth, Sonic gets pulled from side to side at random intervals. I had the thought of it being player controlled, but wasn't sure how it indicate this to the player.

    I really liked the entire concept! It really is a enjoyable minihack, the only criticism i have is about the last stage, Labyrinth. While its fun and all it has an intresting gimmick, however i felt like it was the easiest stage besides Cosmic zone, Spring Yard's bumpers could either help you or mess you up, and i feel like you could do something similar for Labyrinth.

    Thats only really a minor complain i have with this hack, i really enjoyed it and i hope to see a concept like this agian!

    Interesting. I'll see what's in store for me...

    So I played through the hack, and I gotta say, it is definitely different from the first version of the hack I played through months ago.

    First off, the COSMIC ZONE stage remained the same except with some added elements (which some of them may be sus), and as usual the collecting rings within a certain time-limit remained relatively the same when I played it. Having some experience from the first version, I decided to get my rings up to 120 as best as I can. When I did that, I then suddenly went to another area, which is Spring Yard. This is where I began to saw the major differences from this version to the first one, in that this stage had bumpers that alter the gravity of Sonic while free-falling. I played this stage a couple of times to try to get up to 120 rings as I did in COSMIC ZONE (it was kind of tough to do for me, but I manage), and when I finally did it, I was then transported to Labyrinth, where I saw another gimmick relating to the water in Labyrinth while free-falling. As I collected a good number of rings, I was transported to another part of the area and happened that way as I got a good chunk of rings. Once I finished getting about 120 rings for that area, the game transported me back into COSMIC ZONE. This is the point where I realized that this was an endless game.

    My final thoughts on this mini-hack, It's quite an improvement over the first one in terms of features, and I'm pretty impressed with the work that you did (with some help, of course)! Thanks to the muscle-memory of the layouts (as I realized that the ring layouts were repeating while free-falling), I was able to get the 120 rings for the stages in a short amount of time.

    Again, this hack does wonders!

    Oh, and here's how I would rate the difficulty of the stages based on how I played them:

    Easy = Labyrinth
    Medium = Cosmic
    Hard = Spring Yard

    Not that these are my own ratings, but it is quite understandable based on my own knowledge. Not that I wanted to suggest some difficulty tweaks and such, but still.

    Kudos to you!

    (Also, the two stages (Cosmic and Spring Yard) have some form of ring layouts that are kind of "among us". Pretty sus...)

    Now this was a fun hack! Took me a bit to get used to Cosmo Zone so I lost the first few times. I thought Spring Yard and Labyrinth were easier zones. Also I love the Tunnel Scene music from X so I was humming along to the music while playing the game. xD

    Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Time and Place. Loosely based on the SMB1 hack of the same name

    In the main game, the hack makes practically everything pause aside for Sonic, unless you move
    All other modes (Special stage, 2 player, so on) are untouched
    Spindashing is counted as moving, to help with areas where you need to stand still like Silver/Mecha Sonic, ARZs boss, moving platforms, etc

    v1.1 patch notes
    changed base Sonic 2 revision from REV01 to REV02, fixing some minor bugs like the Rexon crash
    unfixed the bug when you jump near the edge of the screen during signpost act ends
    fixed CPZ2s rising water not pausing, greatly effecting that cramped climbing moving blocks section
    fixed remaining instances of screen shaking not pausing
    fixed bugs with HTZs rising and falling ground sections; those were a massive pain in the ass
    fixed WFZs background continuing to scroll when not moving

    Here is a very basic hack: Sonic 2 over 9000. Made by me and gotta give credit to the guy that made sonic 1 over 9000. This is also very broken so keep that in mind.

    Hey, I'm the guy who made Sonic 1: Over 9000. You made something beautiful, but it has the same problems that my hack had. If you're interested in fixing them:
    • When you go into water, Sonic loses those nice values that makes him go that fast because the underwater values load. And when you get out of the water, it restores the original Sonic 2 values, not the ones you've set because it uses values stored on another place. You'll need to change both of these things.
    • The Spin Dash doesn't work, at all. You could try adjusting its values to see if you find the way to make it work with that speed and break the game even more when you perform it.
    Also, because it's Sonic 2 you could do something really funny with Super Sonic.

    Then it would be "Sonic 2 over 999999999999"

    Now all we need is Sonic 3: Over 9000 and Sonic CD: Over 9000. Not sure if the latter is possible, however.

    Well, here I put another better hack. In this hack you have more than enough skills. The level design is not even 1% done but you can play the whole sonic 1 with it. I hope you enjoy it and if you find a bug (debug mode) let me know :).

    I'm a bit confused; what is this hack, and why release it with level design at <1% completion? I'm at work so I can't download it now anyway, but it might make sense to add screenshots or something, maybe a more detailed description, etc.

    You are absolutely right, about 1% is about the level design. It will take time to modify them so I prefer to launch a beta to see if others like it.

    Mini Hack is still very raw. There is something to work on. And I will recommend removing Tails, because he is buggy.
