Scrap Brain Zone 3 has rings, though =/

Unless the rings are reset when you enter FZ...

You never have rings in FZ.

Let me rephrase. Is one's ring count reset to 0 when they go from Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 to Final Zone?

Let me not rephrase. You never have rings in FZ. I'm not a native English speaker, but I thought that "never" couldn't be misinterpreted. However, if you don't believe me, have an animated GIF (from plain Sonic 1, not from this hack):

Oh. In that case, I challenge anyone to beat all levels up to (but not including) Final Zone legit in this hack. Anyone who accomplishes this will receive plenty of praise from me. (That means no level select either =P)

The reason I was a bit skeptical was because I haven't played the original Sonic 1 in forever, so I really wasn't sure about it at first.

LZ will always freeze once you go into the water, so it can not be beaten, unless this doesnt happen in Kega or Regen.

All you'd have to do is keep your rings to a minimum, or just let yourself get hit if you get too many. Doesn't seem like it'd be much harder than normal. In fact the slowdown should actually make it easier, just watch out for crashes.

The irony of Crash saying to watch out for crashes is priceless :p

Also yeah, Labyrinth Zone is beatable :3

(this is a ringless playthrough of LZ for the most part, you can't even tell it's actually this hack until act 2)

Congrats, the music now sounds like it came from Earthbound. Also scarred for life. Also my eyes hurt.

What the Fuck was I playing just now? No but in all seriousness, I like the concept of what you did, especially with the music pitch getting lower with each ring that is collected. though I will have to say that the screen shaking made me a bit sick looking at it after awhile. But aside from that, yet another great but a tad bit of a mindfuck of a hack created by the MJ man.

This is um.... this.... is. It just is.

In all honesty, I have no idea how you did this but great job nevertheless. I'd absolutely love to see MegaGWolf do this one blind. :p

This... this is just... wow. I guess something like this would probably be in an anti-alcohol commercial.

Nothing like playing good old Sonic 1 and- WHOA AM I SEEING THINGS OR IS THIS GAME HAS BEEN DRINKING A FEW TOO MANY? (Nice hack BTW)

P.S. What would happened if you used debug mode and collected 999 rings? I think that would be hell...

I didn't feel like using debug mode, but I tried to give myself extremely high amounts of ring using the FFFE20:xxxx code. With FFFE20:0500 (1280 rings) it's still barely playable, but FFFE20:0600 (1536 rings) is kinda too much. At FFFE20:1000 (4096 rings) you can lose every hope. At FFFE20:2000 (8192 rings) the levels (BG and FG) look ok again, and the music, while extremely slow, is on-pitch again; too bad no sprites are visible at all including Sonic himself.

... beating GHZ1 with FFFE20:FFFF (65535 rings) is an experience everyone should do at least once. I did.

There's a lot of awesome in this hack. First off the idea: Sonic's rings are now infested alcohol, and the more rings you collect the more messed up Sonic gets. It's interesting to see how plastered Sonic can get, or at what degree of intoxication you can get before completing the level. This may sound like a strange concept, but like Markey always does, the execution blows me away. It's strange to see Sonic 1 played at a slower pace without making me want to tear my hair out (Omochao edition) but instead of making me want to stay 50 miles away from rings, it makes me want to collect every ring in sight. That's pretty dang impressive, as I normally want to just speedrun the level while collecting a minimum of 50 rings for the special stages. Granted, that habit shines through here, but I enjoy the feeling of collecting those extra rings. For some reason, the more intoxicated Sonic gets, the more the music slows, and lowers in pitch... and it's pretty creepy. I guess it's because alcohol slows your system, so the music has to adapt to the more you drink, but it's still creepy. My only gripe is I can't pass GHZ act 3, because the game crashes after a certain point, no matter what path I take, and it's an issues that needs to be addressed, because I'd like to fight the boss while loaded. But in all, great hack, fun to play, and a must-get for those who want to play Sonic 1 with a twist.

Okay, so I've done the full playthrough of Ring Ride 2; however, while doing the same for this one, the emulator kept freezing at Labyrinth zone act 1

I even tried skipping to act 2 etc. with level select in an attempt to finish the game but nope... Ring Ride froze again and again

I'm not sure if it's my emulator (FUSION) or the hack itself at fault

I'd really like to finish the hack... please help  :(

FUSION has a built in AVI recorder; that's how I record all of my playthroughs.
