Having looked over the entries for this year, it pains me to say that this year seems to be the worst we've had when it comes to quality. Only a select few hacks actually seem to stand out as being something worthwhile, while the rest just seem to be basic palette hacks, quick sprite edits or terrible level designs. I really feel for he judges, having to pick winners from that lot. It seems these days people are so desperate to get something into the contest they'll just throw any old shit in hoping it sticks. Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with the turnout. I was actually looking forward to it.

Well it's the same for me, I have to go to bed at 9pm to get enough sleep for my work that starts 5:30am so I can't watch anyone live I wanted, maybe a little of RHS. But that's timezones for you, I'll just have to catch up on it when they get uploaded.

I think people need to be reminded this is a contest, not just a place where you submit any old hack to gain attention.
I mean, come on, really? Blue Knuckles in S3K? A texture pack?!

    We're better than this, guys.

But but but joke hacks are FUNNY!
Seriously a very good majority of the hacks this year are an absolute joke. It's as if someone dug through the validation lounge of both respective sites and submitted all the terrible hacks that people think will make them instant members.

At least there will be actual quality control next year.

I will not be surprised if the streams turn into 3 minute flickthroughs with the end of the week being dicking around and repeats of good entries from previous years.

Please don't blame contest staff for this turnout. You only have yourselves to blame for the incoming hellwave of negativity.

I'm hyped to participate on this year's mini contest, which according to Spanner takes from today to Friday. Of course, and if time allows, I'm willing to give my best possible presentation, but timeline is short, and if I'm getting interrupted at home every 5 minutes, time is Freaking gold.

I hate to whine, but, when will the details be given? Thank you.

Is the null vote option new? I've never noticed it before. It's kind of funny to see, considering the complaints above. I personally don't think there are too many bad entrants, but from a glance, there's a surprising amount of garbage hacks.

Just had an opportunity to play a few of these hacks. Definitely a languid effort by a number of people this year, sadly.

I'll be playing through them all this week and giving reviews on all of them, however brutal that may be.

I seem to be getting a 503 error every time I try to click on the link to the site. Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, the null vote is new. Welcome to just a small window of the frustration the judging team has been dealing with this year...

Okay, the website was down once again earlier (sorry, it happens on the first day it seems) but it is now back up again.

Regardless, we now have some externally hosted download packs to refer to should the site go down again and you need your fix.

Click here for just the ROMs and if you want the media included, click this or click this.

Here is the stream lineup for Tuesday:
    4pm GMT / 11am EST / 8am PST - Spanner
    7pm GMT / 2pm EST / 11am PST - redhotsonic
    9pm GMT / 4pm EST / 1pm PST - MegaGWolf (please note - first hour overlaps redhotsonic's last hour)
    12am GMT / 7pm EST / 4pm PST - SomecallmeJohnny

6am GMT / 1am EST / 10pm PST - The Geek Critique (early Wednesday morning for most people)

I think we should edit chunks because our task is to create layout FROM SCRATCH.

It says right on the announcement that you can't edit anything but the layout.
