I don't see why not, it's not homebrew, so basically, you're fine.

If I reach it in time for the submissions, I may submit any of my project's hacks this year. But it's probably that most of them will be coming only in 2016, so... Hm.

Aye! Eduardo is back in the house I see. A coincidence to that I Just recently seen you on YouTube not to long ago. Nice to see you back here and me being one that actually likes the harder levels project (least that's what it was called back then anyway), I will be looking forward to this, along with any other hacks that's going to be in the contest as well.

Thanks a lot, man. This really makes me happy because I lost the contact with you when I was gone. But yeah, I was rounding around Youtube, Facebook and Soundcloud during these timas. But now I'm back with a new name, new hacks, new music and with a brand new attitude.

Yeah. There's a lot coming soon. But I'm not sure if I'll have time to compile a stable game until the Hacking Contest of this year. But 2016 is coming, and certainly I'll have something playable to put on it next year. Anyway, I'll be on it watching the contest of this year too.

Also, "Harder Levels"? Oh, man. No one is calling this hack like this anymore. Anyway, thanks for appreciate my effort with it!

Over the past three years, I've watched the hacking contests, and the last two times, I wanted to enter, but well all too much that I couldn't.
So, this year, I think I'll try, depending on the way things look closer to that time.

Will there be a registration page sooner than the contest week?

Anyway, I am thinking about entering my hack, Escapade.
Of course, I would like to ask here, where (mostly) all can see:

    • Are fan-characters allowed as secondary eater-eggs? (or, primary as other hackers might want to know.)
    • Does all content have to be 100% original, even if credit is given?
    • About what percentage of a hack can be "borrowed"? (I hope this number is pretty low..)
In conclusion, just note that I'm still laughing at the flower pot for grand prize each year.

Sir, this is the hacking contest, not the homebrew contest, and as such any and all parts of a hack can be "borrowed" from the original game and/or tutorials if desirable.
Also, I am fairly certain that fan characters in hacks are allowed, though I'm not sure.

Also also, you'll be able to register long before the contest week. As soon as hack submissions open, registrations are also open.

So I thought I'd make a post about the state of things with the SHC site and stuff. Don't worry, nothing is cancelled or anything along those lines, but hopefully this will clear up some things people might've been wondering about.

    "Where's the site? It's mid-June and there's nothing yet!"

This year's site is being built completely from scratch, again, in order to give everyone a better system to work with. Doing so is a huge job, and it is progressing well. However, my day job is Web Development as well, and one of the last things I want to do when getting home from work in the evenings is work on more websites. In addition, at work we are making a push to launch a new site/product in these upcoming weeks, so even moreso am I working on things and under pressure to get things done. Combine that with a planned holiday in the middle of things, with work forgetting this and wanting to go ahead with the launch anyway, and you can imagine all the fun and games this is bringing.

This isn't me saying I'm not doing any work on it whatsoever, as I dedicate time on the weekends to do this, just with real life getting in the way it's taking longer than I thought it would to get it completed.

"But what about getting my entry completed in time?"

Well, you know the sorts of things that'll be required already, or should do from the posts above, and possibly from last year's contest as well. Get your actual entry ready (obviously), get a description ready both describing and advertising your entry in a concise way, and also prepare media such as gameplay videos and screenshots. That way, once the site is live, all you have to do is some copy-pasting and uploading.

    "Why can't you work quicker!!"

You work in Web Development 9 to 6 every day and see if you want to do so all evening every evening as well. :U As I said, I will get this done, and it will be good, just combined with it being my day job and all the hassle and pressure of things right now, it just may take a little longer than we all thought.

Don't worry about it, can you not get people to take some of the work load off?. Seems a little hard on you doing it all.

Speaking of including media that's something I do want to touch upon. I plan to do an article on each entry and as you can imagine it's a lot of typing, embedding links, and uploading things. It's tedious and if there's one thing that the inclusion of media such as screenshots and/or media also helps is making the construction of those articles easier. This is because having stuff to show helps and, more importantly, it means I can let your work do the talking and not me since the articles are going to showcase each entry and not review them (I intend on doing reviews for here on the SSRG). SHC isn't about me, it's about you guys and the hacks you can create.

Don't get me wrong. It's not necessary for an article. Regardless of media each entry will get an article. But it will make my job just a bit easier with showcasing your work so I highly recommend it. SHC is a great way of getting your work out there, introducing yourself, and show folks just what you're capable of making. I've noticed this is becoming increasingly more apparent in the last few years with the live streams growing more popular. I honestly wouldn't be surprised, with the number of folks that would be exposed to the SHC coverage, if that popularity increased even more. Even just a few screenshots make a difference.

Despite the amount of work that will be done August looks to be a fun one too. =)

I'm not so sure how, but I found what looks like the homepage.

Was I supposed to see this?

EDIT: There's a typo in "Sounds Great! How Do I Enter?" on the about page.
    Bottom of it.
"Once a team has been created and set up, and an entry has been set up to be attributed to the team, any of the team members can make updates the entry."
I believe it should be "can make updates to (or on) the entry."

1, that's my own domain, and I use it for testing things, sooo.. that was me just shoving text in.

2, it's actually evolved beyond that now, so yeah. :U

    Patience, please.

Just a reminder of this year's deadline for submissions.

The submissions deadline for entries will be Sunday 2nd August where you must submit a playable build by then to the contest site in order for it to be entered.

You then have a week to refine your entry, fix any issues found and improve your hack which will be Sunday 9th August 2015.

The Contest Week where the results will be announced somehow at the end of the week in some shape or form will start from Monday 24th August to Sunday 30th August. More details on that week in the next few weeks.

Obviously the site isn't up yet but it should be up in good time before the deadline. If there is still an issue with the site then if we need to extend the deadline to accommodate this, then it may be looked at.

So, you have plenty of time to get a submission made. Don't think you'll get something done in time? Consider making a mini-hack that could still have good playability value, or even just hold off on this year and look at the 2016 Contest. Don't submit an entry that hasn't been changed in years and has already been submitted to previous contests because it's just not worth it at the end of the day. You've had plenty of notice for this contest so there's still time to do something about it.

You would be able to submit before the 2nd, providing the site works.

There will be an announcement concerning the contest deadlines shortly.

TIME EXTENSION - NEW CONTEST DEADLINES

Submissions in by Sunday 9th August 2015.

Updates in by Sunday 16th August 2015

As you may be aware, the contest website where submissions are made as well as downloading and voting for the Contest Week among other things has been in the process of being worked on. Usually, we have submissions open by now, but this has not been the case as Cinossu who is the web developer has had plenty on his plate to deal with outside of the contest site, and so work has been slower than usual.

To accommodate for this inconvenience, the contest deadline has been extended by another week, meaning you all have extra time to get a submission sorted.

The submissions deadline means that you must have a playable build to be submitted to the contest site whilst the updates deadline gives you an additional week to fix any bugs or improve the entry overall. After that deadline is over, the judges will look at the submissions and vote on trophies accordingly. If you don't submit by the 9th from when the site is open for submissions then you are not in the contest.

As mentioned before in the thread, prepare what you will have on your submission page such as entry information, screenshots, videos and a playable build of your entry that has not been submitted before in its current form to the contest. The contest week remains at the current date of starting on Monday 24th and ending on Sunday 30th. There will be plenty of oppertunities to get involved with various means during the week. Judges must have completed their judging by the end of Saturday 29th meaning that results can be announced on the Sunday without any delays.

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou. I've been worried in how much of my hack I finish in a month and there's a lot I can do with the extra week.

I too have been worried about time.  The extention is not enough time to get what I need to get done, but I graciously accept it.
