No new Sonic palette yet, but...

Since SCAA is back, I replaced the springs. But, more importantly...

The new SSZ background. Yes, the waterfall works.

I have to agree to Kain here, the waterfall in your Labyrinth Zone Edit (SSZ) is far too bright please tone it down!

The waterfall reminds me to Techno Hill in SRB2 for some reason. =P

EDIT: sorry for the bump, trash this post.

    I've not played SRB2, so...

I'm worried that it might be a bit busy.

Have a video. This is also the first footage of the Static Curl, which stops your movement for a fraction of a second, then shoots Sonic down. You can use it to fall faster, or actually slow your fall. I do both in this video.

Audio is shit, I'm afraid. Turn your speakers off; you'll thank me.

In Sonic 1 With Fries, you'll see more than a layout/palette change between Acts.

As you know, DDZ Act 1 is set in streets that cut through the city. It's slightly off the ground, but you aren't that high.

DDZ Act 2, on the other hand, is set high above the city. At the very bottom of the stage, you'll see the tops of skyscrapers. It's a harder stage, with more platforming, and it's less forgiving if you fail. You can see the clouds around you... it's kind of scary. Try not to look down.

    Yes, that is a zeppelin.

Aww. This looks quite good to me. But I don't know if the palette is good. What about naming this zone to "Genocide City"? :( Therefore you have to make flames in the background and doing the cycling palette.

    ...No.

What do you find in a subjugated city? That's right, propaganda posters. I'm working on one with Sonic stomping on a city. Making it look like that at the size in question is quite hard, though.

    All hail the Eggman Empire.

My intent with Grand Gardens is to make grown men cry. Rings are scant, everything is trying to kill you, and you have to earn the right to use a Star Post. Those spikes in the top right? The bottom ones retract, giving you half a second to run through. The left end is the room in the screenshot below.

Well, at least lives are generous. You'll need them.

I'm not proclaiming it to be THE BEST FEATURE EVER, STRETCHING THE LIMITS OF TIME, SPACE, AND THE MEGADRIVE, but I'm using different spike art based on the level now. As seen here, Dusk Drive has bright safety tape along the edges of the spikes, while Rust Realm, unsurprisingly, has rusty spikes.

It's not extraordinary, but it's a neat touch that, to my knowledge, hasn't been done before.

Left: Rust Realm's spikes now cause tetanus, not AIDS.

Right: The reason RRZ couldn't have blood? It'd be redundant. Grand Gardens' spikes have the blood of all the idiot characters introduced since SA1 like Shadow, Big, and the impostors of the Chaotix coating them.

This is the VERY WIP new lower background for Grand Gardens, which fits the theme of scaling the exterior of a flying fortress far better than some forest.

    First ingame Paradise Palace screens!

As you can see, I've yet to make an object layout; the level should develop more rapidly now that it's actually in a semiplayable state, though.
